Sensational
Rustic but classy. Everything clean. Top cuisine. Very friendly service. Very nice host with an exceptionally high level of helpfulness. Great starting point for the Sauerland experience. Excellent for motorcyclists. The boss has a workshop and will do everything he can if there are any problems. Motorcycle garage etc. ♂️

Good for weekend or overnight stay
Some years ago we had two nights in this hotel I(nice old facade) in one of the double rooms. As I remember the room was rather small, bathrooms even smaller and the urgent need for refiurbishing. Since we were there during off-season the heating system did not work for a long time which made the stay rather uncomfortable.
This time we booked one of the appartments because they are bigger. And so was the bathroom. Convinient for two persons. Towels and hairdryer providet. The shower cabin ist hard to enter because the step is very high and deep so handycapped persons may have some difficulties there.
The bedroom/living room has ben obviously refurbished not to long ago and is equipped with a very small flatscreem TV two small tables and two chairs. Not really suitable to work. Even though we have been there again during off-season the heating system did work. As a courtesy one bottle of water was provided with compliments whitch I found quite nice. If this is not enough you can help yourself from the fridge (soft drinks and beer) located outisde of the appartment on the floor which is priced very reasonly and conviniently: You just put the money in a box.Unfortunately the beds havent been replaced during the last refurbishing session so they were quite old, short and narrow. The double bed consists of two single beds which habe been moved together. Even worse the mattresses are worn out and totally soft and weak. Not quite comfortable to sleep. (-1point) Sensitive natures may feel discomfortable because of the rather transparent curtain which does not really keep the light out for a long sleep (-1). Fineally about 30m away from your window you will find a railroad track. Though trains run slowly at a rather low frequentcy you may find this disturbing. I didn`t notice it much and I call myselfe sensitive in that matter but maybe someone else does. The kitchen looked clean and complete but since we didnt use it Ill not rate it.
Breakfast was ok, with a wide range of jams, cerials and a selection of (not the finest but ok) cheese and could cuts. A selection of tea and jug of coffee have been provided as well als cold rinks. Personally I think the breakfast at 11€ per person is a bit overpriced considering a room charge of 109€ per night. The staff was always very friendly and attentive. Check in and out proceudre was ok. Keep in mind there is no reception so you need to go to the restaurant to do that. Cash or EC (V-Pay) Card is preferred. Not sure about other credit cards. Parking is for free but you may encounter problems in finding a parking lot during weekends during peak season because of the close tuourist attraction "Reckenhöle = Recken Cave " You can ask in the hotel for a guidet tour. Considering price and all the drawbacks I confirmed my decition to rate it 3 points.

Rundum zufrieden
Das Haus Recke liegt zwar zwischen Bundesstrasse und Bahn, aber dank geräuschdämmender Fenster kaum störend. Sehr schöne geräumige Zimmer gute Betten ausreichend grosses Bad. Frühstück lässt - bis auf dunkle Brötchen- keine Wünsche offen. Abendessen im Restaurant hervorragend. Service freundlich und familär.
Rundum erhohlsam. Danke für den Geburtstagstisch und die Möglichkeit die Höhle allein zu erkunden, die Enkel waren begeistert!

Motorrad-Wochenende mit allerbester Begleitung
Auf Empfehlung haben wir ein Motorrad-Wochenende im Haus Recke gebucht.
Und wir wurden nicht enttäuscht. Wenn man beim Eintreffen nach 3,5-stündiger Motorradfahrt direkt mit einem kalten Bier empfangen wird (noch draußen am Motorrad serviert), ist das doch schon die halbe Miete.
Das Essen zum gebuchten Arrangement war top, der Chef steht selbst hinterm Grill für ein ausgezeichnetes BBQ. Und das, nachdem er uns den ganzen Tag selber mit Moped die schönsten Schleichwege im Sauerland gezeigt hat. Kaffee- und Mittagspause mit inbegriffen.
Die Zimmer sind renoviert und geschmackvoll hergerichtet. Die Matratzen waren sensationell. Alles war sauber und ordentlich.
Das Frühstücksbuffet lässt keine Wünsche offen. Das Service-Personal freundlich, flink und sehr zuvorkommend.
Zum Abschluss haben wir dann noch einen Blick in die hauseigene Höhle werfen dürfen. Alles in allem ein gelungenes Wochenende - wir kommen gerne wieder.

Wo die Dienstreise überraschend zum Urlaub wurde
Das Hotel Haus Recke war für mich eigentlich nur eine Übernachtungsstation während einer Geschäftsreise, wurde dann aber zu einem richtig erholsamen Erlebnis. Das liegt an der sehr familiären Führung, dem unheimlich liebevoll renovierten Areal und an einem Frühstück, das mich erstaunt hat...
+ kostenlose Parkplätze direkt am Haus
+ durch und durch sympathischer Empfang durch die Seniorchefin
+ ganz tolle Zimmer, die mit Kreatitvität und Liebe zum Detail gestaltet wurden
+ sehr bequemes Bett mit hochwertigen Decken und Kissen
+ fast futuristisches Bad mit XXL-Dusche und einem ganz besonderen WC (die Überraschung möchte ich nicht verderben ;-)
+ gutes WLAN
+ großartiges Frühstück, bei dem sogar Esszett-Schnitten, Schaumküsse und allerlei internationale Leckerbissen angeboten werden
+ sehr gelungener Frühstücksraum mit Wohlfühlfaktor 10
+ Late CheckOut wurde gern und kostenfrei gewährt
+ Getränke-Kühlschrank zum selbst bedienen mit Vertrauens-Kasse
+ insgesamt äußerst faire Preise
Ein kleines bisschen meckern kann ich noch, aber viel ist das nicht:
- sehr verwunschene Lage im Hönnetal, man könnte auch sagen: abseits :-)
- der Schreibtisch ist für einen Mann meiner Größe zu kompakt
- die Heizung sprang leider in der zweiten Nachthälfte nicht mehr an, aber das habe ich bei der Abreise zu reklamieren vergessen
Dem Gesamteindruck fügt das jedoch keinen Schaden zu: von Familienhand geführte Hotels haben es heutzutage sicher nicht leicht, und was die Vanselows hier für ihre Tochter (sie wird das Haus übernehmen) vorbereitet haben, ist wirklich ein ganz großes Lob wert.
