In the center of Bamberg

Delightful hotel. Very central, 50 meters from the market square. With parking (to be booked!). Sufficiently large rooms, tastefully furnished, comfortable beds, bathroom with bathtub or shower and cleaning supplies, soft towels. Very rich and varied breakfast, sweet and savory, with fruit, vegetables, cured meats, cheeses, jams, cakes... Very kind and helpful staff. The only negative note for which I don't give my all: there is no lift and the rooms are on 3 floors.

The room we had it should not be awarded

The reception was very nice. Then we were given our room key with clue 2. Floor. Since there is no elevator, we were offered Help center to bring the luggage upstairs. The stairs are already very many and steep and a challenge for people who are not in such good health. Since I would definitely recommend the lower floor. The room is very small and without bumping you could not get to the back bed. Too tight. But what is not possible is the window with (no) view. You look at a wall and a scaffolding. So daylight hardly ever. Pretty dark the room and without turning on lights it can't be done at all. That's very distressing. This room is not worth the money in any way. How can you assign a room like this? We travel a lot and this room is by far the worst we have ever experienced. It's too bad. The hotel itself is beautiful. Although a bit old, but it is also an old hotel and therefore fine. Breakfast was ok kept fairly simple. We also had to wait for cheese, glasses, juice and a lot more on both days. Coffee was good and clean it was too. We would not visit this hotel again.

Everything bad except the location

The only good thing is the location. The hotel is old, noisy, the TV did not work and they also woke us up with a call that we had not scheduled. The staff serves the restaurant and the hotel at the same time, so they do not serve well on either side.

Old world charm

The Wilde Rose is situated in the heart of the old town in Bamberg which is a world heritage site. As a consequence it is in a very old building and the rooms are not the most modern, however the room we had was large clean, comfortable and quiet (especially as there is a bar/restaurant downstairs).
There is no lift and no tea and coffee making facility in the rooms, neither is there air conditioning, although the thick walls of the building keep it fairly cool.
The staff are all very friendly and helpful and checking in was quick and easy.
The continental breakfast buffet (no fry ups here) is really excellent, with fresh meats, cheese and fruit and all the usual cereals.
There is also a tray of fresh fruit in the hallway for you to help yourself to.
The hotel is twinned with a nearby beer garden and therefore has its own beer which is very good.
If you are looking for a comfortable place to stay that isn't too fussy or fancy I would heartily recommend the Wilde Rose and would not hesitate to stay again.

Serendipitous

We wandered the streets of Bamberg looking only for a pub. There are lots, I hear you say, but only if you know where they are.
We spotted Wilde Rose from a distance, almost hidden behind a VW truck. It was serendipitous (won’t hurt you to look the word up) that we found it at all.
They brew their own beer, I understand. The Weissbier is certainly as good as anything from Munich but that's all I could fit in. They cook an excellent regional cuisine that took up the remaining space..
I recommend Wilde Rose for either beer or food.
