Weekend with Friends
stayed for 4 nights, great location out of town quite and stunning views
Family very friendly and no language barriers
Fantastic price
only drawback 0900 finish for breakfast so no "lie ins"

Great location for hiking
We recently spent 2 nights at Pension Anoetzlehen. The host does not speak English but my husband speaks a little German so it was not a problem. The property is located on a steep hillside about 5 minutes from the center of Berchtesgaden. We enjoyed the beautiful rural hillside and did some hiking on the paths above the property. Our room was clean and the bathroom updated. We did not eat in the restaurant, the breakfast buffet was traditional German food. I was not impressed with the common areas, they seemed very dirty and uncared for/dated and worn. We enjoyed our stay but it was not a place we would return to.

Comfortable residence - basic food
We picked this place mainly for the price for an all inclusive ski holiday. We will return as we shoutout it offered excellent value for money, especially compared to what is offered in France for the same. The ensuite rooms were spacious and warm, (probably as big as a budget apartment in France for 6 people). There is no chalet maid service, but if you need clean towels just leave them outside your room, similar with your bin. Frau Murf, the owner speaks no English and Limited English is spoken, but they do go out of their way to make sure you enjoy your stay. The majority of the people visiting the hotel were Europeans, but then again most British head to France for skiing.
All drinks are included from 10:00-10:00, with an honesty system outside this time. Continental breakfasts every day with cereal option. You can take your lunch at this time, bags are available for this purpose. The Evening meals were mainly ok with the exception of 1 which was awful. Desserts were basic - yoghurt so, mousse, puréed fruit. As one family told us, on their 5th visit, they don't go there for the food. It is in a good spot for e skiing and walking that is available in the area. It is a nice easy going establishment that is worth consideration. Yes we will return as we enjoyed the skiing and it was a great base with plenty of food and a nice atmosphere and drinks included.

Very quiet place for resting
We stopped in this pension for a couple of days on our way from Czech Republic to Italy. We wanted to enjoy some quiet place before entering the crowded Italian holiday resorts. And this place is exactly what we have been searching for. The location of the pension is outside the Berchtesgaden city in the hills and in the middle of meadows. There is nothing else within approx. 500 meters. So one is not bothered by any traffic or city noise.
The pension itself is a typical family run business characteristic for this region. So the owner family welcomes you and arranges everything around your stay. On the other hand it is not that much. The service is very limited which is nothing surprising given the type of accommodation. It is not a 4* hotel. E.g. cleaning is just upon request. But a decent breakfast is included (with sufficient variety to survive for a couple of days without eating still the same) and unlike other similar facilities, also dinner is included in the price. The downside is that it is served exactly at 6 p.m. only and you cannot choose what you get. So it is sometimes surprise what you are going to eat in the evening. You can purchase some drinks at the "reception desk" - you take it from a fridge, note it down on a piece of paper and pay for it when checking out - a system based on trust which would absolutely not work in our country :-(
The accommodation was quite OK. Nothing special but typical Bavarian country style. Which we like. It is true that the building would deserve some refurbishment (e.g. some broken tiles in the bathroom, mould around windows, a balcony door difficult to open or worn closet). The same applies for a playground adjacent to the building. It appears to be neglected. But if you consider the price you pay (in our case - 66 EUR per night, 3 years old child for free with halfboard) it still works. And I will repeat myself - the location is fabulous. When I planned this trip I checked many similar facilities in that area but all other were located too close to an everyday hustle.
There is a plenty of opportunities what to do and where to go (Eagles Nest, Königssee, Jenner and other high mountains, Berchtesgaden city or even Salzburg is just 15 km faraway). But you definitely need a car. Everything is quite far without a car. Despite the dense network of public busses it would be complicated to be dependent just on it.
What is also worth mentioning is the language barrier. You definitely need to know at least a little German. Otherwise you will be lost. Perhaps somebody from the hosting family speaks decent English but we did not meet any. English is not a problem in the city or at the various "points of interest". They usualy understand a bit English.
So if you prefer holidays in the country away from a city life and do not have any excessive expectations this could be for you.

Good Bavaria Experience
Great family guesthouse. We arrived late on a Saturday evening with a pre booked room. The room was adequate, clean with all amenities. Our first time to Bavaria and unfortunately the weather was not in our favour. We were welcomed by the Murf family and felt truly at home, would return and stay here. We also had an evening meal here which was very homely.
