Always a lovely stay

I always enjoy staying at the Mercure: comfortable rooms, very nice, attentive staff, and really delicious breakfast!

Below average!

Very aging hotel that I would not choose again. Maximum 2 star category. Furniture stale and with visible signs of aging. In the bathroom you can find lime stains everywhere, the towels also old and even the bath towel very small. Shampoo and soap available, however, it would be nice if a hair conditioner and body lotion were also available. That's what you'd expect from a 4-star hotel these days. Rooms very noisy and the service really maximum lower average.
Breakfast is also lower standard. If you arrive a little later, bread, cheese, sausage is already dried up and hard. Definitely only the cheapest of everything in bulk. You don’t even bother to separate the cheese slices, so you have to take a whole heap of cheese with the tongs. Juice comes from the vending machine, coffee inedible.
Pros: The location of the hotel is very quiet and central.

Fair prices, outbuildings, defective lift – far from Accor standard

Arrival & check-in
Arrival around 12:00 – Room reportedly not ready yet. Early check-in was possible for other guests, but only as an Accor member. Although I am a member, I was not offered this option.
Annex – not communicated
The assigned room is located in a separate annexe, which was not apparent before. Breakfast and self-service bar are located in the main building – so building changes are necessary several times a day.
Defective elevator
Room in the 2. Floor, elevator broken during the entire stay (3 days). Staff reaction: Shrugging. No repair, no apology, no alternative solution.
Room
At first glance okay, on closer inspection deficient. Bed lamps loose and barely attached, one of them functionless. No minibar. Cleaning is supposedly only done "on request" for environmental reasons – but making a bed and refilling toilet paper has little to do with environmental protection, but even more so with cost savings.
Pricing
The room price was almost twice as high as in the following weeks – the only reason being the FIBO trade fair taking place at the same time. For this price unacceptable value for money.
Other deficiencies
Gym: a small weight set, two cardio machines – nothing more
Water dispenser available, but bottles regularly empty
Self-service bar in the main building – impractical for outbuilding guests
Accor comparison
What disappoints me in particular: I’ve been an Accor member for years and I’m usually absolutely happy with the hotels in the group – even with ibis budget houses that deliver reliably at a significantly lower price point in terms of service and cleanliness. The Mercure Köln Belfortstraße is completely out of line and does not live up to the name of the group.
Conclusion
The only plus: free parking. Otherwise at this level and at this price absolutely not recommended. No more visits.

No Mercure 4 star hotel

Unfortunately for a four-star hotel, a big disappointment, self-service bar without Service, non-functioning heating in October at 10° outside temperatures, mineral water bottle in the room was missing, although stated in the booking, water from the pool cold, extremely noisy.

Positives: clean and in a quiet area
Negatives: maybe this hotel would have been fine had it not been for a terrible first impression that then meant finding fault with things normally would just have been ignored. On arrival, checked in and told would be staying in the less-than-appealing-looking block the other side of the road (no reception, bar or pool or anything there). Then told am staying in a room on fourth floor and then told the lift is not working. There was no email about this in advance, or message via Expedia. This was not a problem but the fact they had not even bothered to check or update me in advance was lazy practice by Mercure management. The feeling it left me with was that they did not really care about having me as a guest and that feeling persisted the next time I interacted with a member of staff in check-out; who did not even bother to ask me how my stay was. It just gave the impression of a hotel where the culture is one of not really being that bothered at all about customer service.
So I can also say that my room smelt of drains, had to phone for the WiFi password, the bed was uncomfortable, the two pillows provided had the structural integrity of a melting block of ice and ice would have been nice as, inevitably, the air conditioner did not work.
The hotel did offer me a free drink at the bar on arrival because the lift was broken. The bar was unstaffed at that point, so meaningless.
Book elsewhere.
