Traditional hotel, well located
I went with a coach group. We had to park some distance away because the street was closed for the Christmas market, but I cannot complain about that. The hotel staff were polite in my minimalist dealings with them. They were great about providing gluten free breakfasts for me. The choice of breakfast foods was just about the best I've seen in 40 years of travelling. The hotel location is very central, and I had a good view of the church. The bells rang in a clanging, tuneless fashion at 6 every morning! The decor inside the hotel is traditional, with a duck theme. Ducks embroidered on the to the pillowcases, etc. It was clean, and warm enough, though my room was more compact than I'm used to. There was a private bar-room of sorts, but our group was advised to drink at a Scottish bar nearby as the room was too small for groups. I don't miss a bar, so that was ok for me. I'd have liked to try the hotel restaurant in the evening, as the menu looked good, but our group was expected to eat out. Maybe I will try coming back as a solo/couple traveller to see how the experience matches up. It's certainly a great base for sightseeing in the Rhineland. In summary, I'd be very happy to stay at the Hotel Trapp again

A problematic owner
Everything had started well: setting, staff, location, cleanliness, rooms... until dinner when the establishment's owner entered the scene, even though everything was going well... She made an encoding error for a payment that did not go through, misplaced suspicion of theft, her relational incompetence did the rest. In my life, I have never seen this in a hotel (rudeness, refusal to answer, inappropriate remarks... and I could go on). We were a large group, we were filling her establishment for 3 nights. If an employee in another hotel spoke to customers like that, they would be fired on the spot. She was creating an unacceptable tension. I did not put "horrible" for the staff who, for their part, were doing their job correctly. PS: I witnessed this bizarre behavior, it was scandalous.

Poor service and poor room
Unfortunately a very disappointing experience. The room we got was incredibly dark with views of a backyard and the stinking trap of chemistry. The bath was broken so you couldn't use it. Breakfast was boring but ok. Due to deaths in the family we had to go home a day earlier than planned and asked if it was possible with some form of refund or to move the stay. This was bluntly rejected and we had to pay for 2 days even though we only stayed there 1 night. Here we never come again!

Very mediocre and clearly too expensive
For a total of around EUR 170 per night, I would have expected air conditioning. At breakfast there was canned fruit salad, on Sunday at 8:30 there was no more bacon for scrambled eggs and the scrambled eggs had probably been there for a long time. With the wine festival, it was very loud until well after 1:00 in the morning and because of the lack of air conditioning, we had to leave the windows open. It was over 30 degrees during the day and that's certainly not unusual there. There aren't enough parking spaces either, so it's better not to move the car. The room was very small and overall the furnishings were very dated and overdecorated. Because of the small room, the television was of course also very small. The reception closed at 6 p.m. at the latest, unbelievable for a EUR 170 hotel. I wouldn't book the hotel again.

Good location for ideal stay
Hotel is within walking distance of rail but also local bus stops 1 street away an added bonus is free parking
Staff very helpful and breakfast is good
Overall an enjoyable stay and would recommend staying at this hotel
