Very pleasant stay!

We stayed here for one night in May on our Rheinsteig hike and felt very comfortable in a double room with a private bathroom. The house has a pleasant atmosphere, the service is very friendly, the prices are relatively moderate and the small breakfast buffet includes everything a hiker needs for a day. We would love to come back!

Excellent value

My wife and I stayed here while we were attending the Night of the Prog festival at Loreley Amphitheater in July 2018. By the time we started searching for rooms (October 2017), everything on the Loreley side of the river was fully booked. But this hotel was in the perfect location for those of us on the "wrong" side of the river, with the ferry right across the street. Frankly, I think St Goar is the better town to stay in.
Our en suite room (they have both en suite and shared bathroom rooms) had a great view of the beautiful Rhine River. But with the view comes the possibility of street noise. Get a room in back if you're a light sleeper. There's no air conditioning and it was 80-85F during our stay. But it was tolerable with the windows open and the cool breeze coming off the Rhine. There are only a couple of hotels in the area with air conditioning and they are much more expensive.
Our room was fairly large, by European hotel standards. The double bed is comfortable, even if it is the typical European twin beds pushed together with two separate comforters/duvets. The shower is fine. Breakfast is good and there's really no where else in town to get breakfast other than coffee, pastries and sandwiches.
There's a mini-fridge full of bottled beers just inside the night entrance. You just mark what you take on the sheet of paper provided and they add it to your bill. I was a little worried that my fellow festival attendees staying here might get a bit rowdy or noisy but I never heard a peep out of any of them at night after the festival.
For those of us used to online booking and payment, Hotel an der Fähre is a bit different. Use the email form on their website to inquire about vacancies. Choose your room and ask them to reserve it. You will receive an emailed confirmation. No deposit is required. They accept cash only, upon your departure.
Should I have the opportunity to visit St Goar again, I wouldn't hesitate to stay at Hotel an der Fähre again.

Great value

This is a two-star hotel, so you have a shared bathroom and toilet. As we just stayed one night, this didn't bother us. The rooms are simple but adequate, and the beds are good. Breakfast is fine. Th location at the river Rhine Quay is fantastic. Free parking in the quay but not during the day. Reception is unmanned in the evening, but they use a key safe for guests who are arriving late. Not all rooms have the river view; we looked out on an inner wall. We paid 45 euro for a night, and that is great value for money.

Fantastic view

Loved the view from room. Small place but very friendly. Had a honor bar fridge near back door. Very quiet and comfortable. Typical European breakfast but plenty of coffee. Close location to everything including boat trips down the Rhine. Although this place is located right behind the car ferry we did not hear it. There are stairs to climb with your luggage but the view is worth it.

Great hostess and great location

Nice room with comfortable bed. Need lighter weight duvet and some source of coffee during the day. Great location to catch ferry and hike to castle. I liked St. Goat better than other towns on Rhein because it had fewer tourists and the castle was open with good signage and walks.
