Good Small Hotel Close to Old Town
We stayed here for two nights in early December 2025. The hotel is located about two blocks from the central train station on the Pfaffenteich, a large artificial pond just north of the old town. We found the location excellent, within easy walking distance to restaurants and sights in the old town.
The hotel had a central elevator. We booked a double room, and it was nicely outfitted with a full-sized bed, sitting chair, and desk. The décor was “classical,” with modern touches. The bathroom was spacious and clean. There was a bathtub with a shower attachment that required one to step over a high edge to enter and exit. Closet space was somewhat limited, but we were able to squeeze in our large rolling luggage case and clothing. A single small TV was attached to a wall on a movable mount with access to local German TV stations. The room faced the rear courtyard, and it was quiet at night.
Breakfast was served in a dining room on the ground floor and consisted of the typical Continental buffet, with hot items available upon request. Mealtime was busy but never crowded. The hotel also had water and sweets available throughout the day at various locations. The hotel had a bar area and a very nice sitting room/library with plush leather chairs.
Staff we dealt with were professional and courteous.
Overall, a very nice hotel in a good area! We had no issues with walking around at night, although one must always be mindful of their surroundings. I would recommend a walk around the Pfaffenteich and exploring the neighborhood on the east across from the hotel.

An experience
As travelers we normally stay in a hotel of the well-known chains. You know the quality is usually good. This time we chose because of the location of the hotel to deviate from our habits and...we are pleasantly surprised.

A nice and small, uncluttered hotel. A good spacious room in classic style with a nice bed and a good bathroom (with fine shower).
As soon as you step out of the hotel you are standing a the Pfaffenteich, a lake in the city, on a quiet road. Within five minutes walk along the lake you are in the middle of the city.
Parking, if there is space, you do behind the hotel. There they have a number of parking spaces, also for EVs (no fast chargers so bring ac charger).
Breakfast is okay. Not very extensive, despite the quite high additional cost, but sufficient.
Schwerin is a nice town. A Friendly Mood and a Beautiful Castle.

Lovely Small Hotel ! Probably the Nr. 1 in Schwerin Old Town.
This small hotel is probably the Nr. 1 in Schwerin Old Town. You can feel the personal dedication to every detail by the owner ladies. And the friendly service by the staff. The Niederländischer Hof provides an elegant yet cozy atmosphere overall. Great view from the breakfast room over the Pfaffenteich lake. My favorite was the Kaminzimmer (library with fire place) where I could indulge in my Romeo y Julieta. This is definitely the only place for aficionados in Schwerin!

A successful break in an owner-managed hotel with charm
We spent 2 nights here. The rooms are well equipped and very clean. You have to like the charm of "days gone by" without sacrificing comfort. Very lovingly furnished and plenty of space. The view of the Pfaffenteich is unbeatable
The fireplace room is THE highlight for smokers.
The selection of drinks at the bar is sufficient and Mrs. Schmitz (one of the owners) was very accommodating.
The breakfast buffet was generous and was refilled until shortly before the end of breakfast hours. There was something for everyone.
So a clear recommendation if you want to visit Schwerin. The location is perfect for exploring the beauties of the city - I can also recommend a guided city tour at this point.

Have a great time in Schwerin!
We stayed with a large group of friends at the Hotel Niederlander Hof in Schwerin. The hotel has a pleasant, historic charm, which has been modernized and contemporary in appropriate places, with a fine touch. The location is also nice, right on the Pfaffenteich and within walking distance of the city center. My room was elegantly and tastefully furnished and was in excellent, very clean condition and a pleasant size. The bathroom was also clean and pleasantly large. In the evening we visited the well-stocked hotel bar a lot and had a good time. It is particularly worth mentioning that there is a club/fireplace room right next to the bar, where you can also smoke, so that fans of blue smoke don't have to go outside in the cold. The breakfast buffet was extensive and tasted great, egg dishes were freshly prepared on request, and the gentleman from the breakfast service had a very good overview. From booking to arrival, stay and departure, you always felt comfortable and in good hands. We had a great time, all my friends said in unison. A clear recommendation! Thank you very much! I'd be happy to come again!
