Nice hotel with a few weaknesses

Good location, close to the city centre, lovely lobby, decent bar, brilliant pool and sauna, very friendly staff. Rooms were average; we had a dog-friendly room with no wardrobe, the curtains were torn and the cleanliness was a bit so-so. The second room for our daughter was very good. Excellent breakfast.

Disappointing for a 4*

Too many “should have researched in advance” and not the best in cleanliness …
I have to admit that I got sent an sms the day before of our stay with a link that I bothered to read. It said we have to book the swimming pool/gym in advance , and that it will be only one session per day. Great. In their defence they have extended the schedule for children. But then we were left waiting for the cleaning of our room (which to start with was dusty). They never showed up. Apparently I had to book the cleaning myself (?). When I finally got the room done the next day they did not clean the bathroom, had the same stains than the day before (toilet not even sprayed) just clean towels and beds done and that was it.
To end the stay I ask for an alternative for our breakfast, since we were leaving early…I was told it was too late to ask for it. I understand that the evening before perhaps it was, but there was none compensation for it in any form.
Too many rules and low standards for a 4*.
Breakfast was varied and good.

Uncertain experience, poor handling – not worthy of a hotel in this price class

I stayed at Scandic Royal Stavanger from May 19-21 and experienced an event that makes me consider other options before I book this hotel again.
The night of May 20th, I was awakened by a heavy knock on the door. A man wearing only a T-shirt stood outside my room repeatedly trying to get in. I had to physically push him out and lock the door. It turned out that he had also used the outside area of the room as a toilet, leading to an intense and very unpleasant odor that penetrated into the room.
I immediately contacted the front desk and made it clear that I could not stay in the room. It took about 30-40 minutes before guards and police arrived and gained control of the person. During this period he continued to stay right outside my door and knock on. The experience was both unsafe and extremely stressful.
The reception kept in touch with me and eventually arranged alternative accommodation in another nearby hotel, which I naturally appreciate. Nevertheless, I had almost no sleep that night, and the whole stay was characterized by the incident.
The next day I got a new room at Scandic Royal, and I informed that I expected some kind of compensation. I was told that this should be considered. Despite the fact that I have sent an objective and detailed complaint in the aftermath and purret, I have not received any answer.
I understand that the event itself can be difficult to predict, but the lack of follow-up is far below what one can expect from a hotel in this category. When I as a guest experience such a serious and unsafe situation, the hotel should take responsibility and show clear will to correct.
Based on my experience, I cannot recommend Scandic Royal Stavanger.
