Nice spot and handy to town.
Has been a nice spot, the views are amazing and the location is great. It feels a bit like it has past its best, the TV is wall mounted but the old fashioned TV table is still there with an old selection of magazines dating back to 2009. The parking is great and secure, the staff are nice but hand written notes in the room spoil it a bit. There are coasters on the coffee table but the varnish is already peeling off.

Spacious well equipped apartment in a convenient location
Stayed here for business meetings in the Nelson area.
What I liked about this place:
- the apartment is very spacious and it is well equipped with the basics
- the location is good if you want to be close to the main road
- convenient onsite parking if you have a car
- apart from road noise, it is quite and private
- close to the beach and a reserve/park
- there is a bar on the ground floor, but the emphasis appears to be on the bar not the restaurant, so not necessarily appealing to all.
What I did not like so much:
- the road noise. The apartment is reasonably well insulated so with the doors closed, it is not too bad, but if you want to be on the balcony, it is very noisy.
- the beach is literally across the road, but it is a very busy, big road. The beach is stunning and a really good place for a long walk, but only after you have navigated that road
- the place is getting a bit tired inside
- there was no information available inside the apartment or digitally about services such as recycling, how to use the appliances like the laundry or info about restaurants in the area.
- apart from the bar on the ground floor, there are not really any good places to eat within walking distance.

Disappointed with The Sands Nelson accommodation
We stayed in room 208, which was in desperate need of a complete makeover. Everything felt old, and many items were broken or on the verge of breaking. The main bed was uncomfortable because it was very basic. The carpet also needed replacing, and the outdoor area should be entirely removed, as it was a broken, rusty mess on the dirty, unkempt deck. This was not at all what we expected when we booked this property, and it was very disappointing, to say the least. At $390 a night, we expected a much better experience.

Great location but could be cleaner
Fantastic location with shops and a bar/restaurant underneath, more restaurants around the corner and Tahunanui Beach just across the road. We stayed in Apartment 307 which was spacious and very well appointed. However the cleanliness was just not up to standard. The first thing I noticed when I walked into the living area was a huge stain in the middle of the carpet. It looked as though someone had spilled their entire drink and just left it. There were other various small stains throughout the apartment. The ironic thing is that there is a sign on the front door saying "Please remove your shoes" - ummm no thanks, I don't want to be walking in bare feet all over God knows what on the dirty carpet! There was a small mark on one of the cream leather couches which I wiped off before I sat on it but the tissue I used came up black so obviously the couch had ingrained dirt and hadn't been cleaned in a very long time. I understand that this particular apartment is currently listed for sale but in the meantime it would be a great idea to actually have the carpet cleaned for paying guests.
