Breath taking

Awesome hospitality,the manager was just an awesome hands on guy
Rooms were clean, morning breakfast was just delicious and well spread.
Views from the place to die for.
Parking spaces ample,just an awesome place.
Great value for your money and noise actually none with great amenities.
My nephew booked this and we are thankful,heaven on earth.

King hotel is close to the Ohakune train station. Our private room was very cold (May 2026) during the stay even with the heater at maximum. The breakfast was nice and simple, eggs, cereals, carrot cake. The bathroom is a little small but very clean. Property is currently up for sale too.

Don't go here if you want to sleep

Loud boom boom music until 5am in morning from the bar, did not sleep. Private function so couldn't even go and use the bar or restaurant. Only found out was closed for private function when arrived, had pre-booked, and I mentioned it but they didn't seem to think that would be an issue but it WAS. Will never stay here again. Wish I had read previous reviews I see I am not the first traveller to experience this here.

Excells again despite seasons!

This is so unpretentious and well priced. Far better than the keg. Family friendly … though the $15 for darts seems sharp ( no pun intended) but maybfr reflects the risk!
Staff friendly, good drink choices and burgers are the best in Ohakune as too the chips.

Pub meal

I came by for dinner at the pub to meet up with a friend. The dining area is fairly large and they do have outdoor seating but it wasn't really in use for dinner. We were able to get a table without having to book. It was quite warm in there though.
The menu is interesting, which ranges from standard pub fare like burgers and bangers and mash to something a bit different, like the lamb shank ragu. I had the Korean spiced beef brisket and it was delicious. It had a nice heat to it and the kimchi and cauliflower rice added their own flavours and textures. The dipping sauce was salty and spicy.
I grabbed a dessert instead of drinks. the chocolate cheesecake was nice and rich and it came with ice cream and cream. It was a nice place for a tasty meal. It is also a nice place fo drinks if that was all your after.
