Cheap, quiet and clean. Can't ask for more for a cheapie!!

Perfectly fine for what it is. It was clean and quiet. Super basic, and old-skool, but does the job nicely for the price. Feels like something from days gone by. Definitely not flash, but absolutely fine.

Real Kiwi

We were staying overnight in Wairoa at the Three Oaks motel. The owner suggested that we eat at the Ferry as it was one of very few eateries available in the town that night. When we arrived at the hotel, we mistook the entrance and after trying to attract attention we were eventually lead through the hotel accommodation, and ubiquitous fruit machine hall into the main public area. Our first impressions were not very good as it looked like a drinking den, but having reassured my doubting wife we ordered drinks and an evening meal. We quickly realised that the natives were friendly, in what can only be describe as a very basic and masculine environment, and we were surprised to find that one of the bar-flies had emigrated to the town several years ago from our home country of Wales.
When our meal was prepared and ready we were escorted back through the hotel to a very nice dining room overlooking the adjacent Wairoa river, and we sat down and thoroughly enjoyed a very good steak washed down with one of the very good Hawke's Bay reds. All-in-all a very good and real kiwi experience.

Never Again

My niece and I booked 2 rooms at the Ferry Motel in Wairoa for the 8th March. We were told it was $100.We were told it was 1 x double bed & 1 x single bed in each room.On arrival I paid my $50 for 1 room (No1) the man gave me my key. The room had 2 x single beds & a pull out couch. I unpacked and settled into my room & about 1 hour later the man came & told me I was
in the wrong room & asked me to move to No 5 , so I did & that had 1 x double & 1 x single bed. I unpacked again. My niece arrived & paid for her room ( No 6) and the man then told her to tell me to come & pay for my room. My niece tried the key to No 6 & it didn't work & was then informed they had lost the key , so gave her a key to No 3. That room had 2 x singles. There were 3 of them staying!!!!
The management did nothing about the lack of beds , so I changed with my niece. I went to see the man who said I hadn't paid & he told me it was $100 per room. I could not believe that price. The room had green mould in the bathroom which looked like it had been there for years. The paint was peeling off the bathroom ceiling in many places & the outside door had been sanded down & paint brush marks were randomly all over the door.
I am very disappointed with the price of the rooms considering their condition. Definitely not worth $100 per night & extremely disappointed with the lack of interest / help given to my niece as to there not being enough beds for the amount of people staying. What did they expect my family to do? Sleep on the floor after paying such an exorbitant price for the room?????
I will never ever under any circumstances stay at this establishment again.
