Visit to Arequipa

We recently stayed at Los Tambos Colonial Hotel in Arequipa while celebrating our silver wedding anniversary, and overall we had a very enjoyable experience. The hotel made us feel special by surprising us with a beautiful anniversary card and a lovely heart-shaped chocolates in a box which was a thoughtful and much appreciated gesture.
Breakfast each morning was delicious, and we especially loved the personalised touch when our breakfast plate was decorated with a special Colca sign. On the day of our Colca Canyon tour, the hotel kindly prepared a generous breakfast bag for us to take along since we had to leave very early, which was another thoughtful touch.
The reception staff were welcoming, friendly, and always willing to help. The breakfast staff were attentive, although there were a few minor mistakes with our orders during our stay.
Our only disappointment was with our room allocation. Before our arrival, we had specifically requested a ground-floor room with lots of anticipation fue to mobility issues. Unfortunately, we were assigned a room on the first floor, which meant climbing stairs every time we returned to our room and made our stay more physically challenging than expected. We hope the hotel can improve in honouring accessibility requests in the future.
Despite this, we appreciated the hotel’s warm hospitality, thoughtful anniversary surprises, and excellent customer service. It is well positioned, close to restaurants, shops and main attractions. However, it is is a pedestrian mall where cars are not allowed access. Need to take luggage up the hill to catch an uber or taxi. We would happily recommend Los Tambos Colonial Hotel to travellers visiting the beautiful city of Arequipa.

Historic Center: historic look hotel.

When visiting Arequipa as a tourist, I will highly recommend to stay in the "Historic Center," since it will be close to most tourist attractions: many walking distance. This hotel is in that part of town, in a pedestrian exclusive street named "Mercaderes" which goes directly to one of the sides of the Cathedral. Even if the vehicles cannot leave you at the front door, you just need to walk a short distance (Mercaderes). From its entrance -a charming "zaguán" (patio area)- to the reception, you will feel like you have been transported to a different time, since the hotel maintains the looks of an old Arequipa's house.
I booked a triple room (three single beds) on the first floor that included a bathroom: it was clean, spacious, and vey quiet. The room came with the basic toiletries (shampoo, soap, etc.), and they also provided bottled water. Outside of the room, there was an area where you can get cold and hot water, as well as coffee and tea bags. The rooms are a good distance from the hotel's front door, in a newer building, so it is quiet.
The breakfast was included, and it was served to order from a preset menu. It includes hot beverages, smoothies, local bread, and several options made to order such us omelets, pancakes, tamales, sandwiches, and a generous fruit bowl with yogurt. It was delicious!
The staff was nice and helpful. Very professional, and made our stay a great one. I would stay at this place again.

This is the best hotel we stayed at during our trip to Peru. Super location!!! Super building with a lot of character and super staff!!! We had to leave one day at 2:50 am and as we were exiting, a gentleman at the counter saw us leaving and asked us to wait a couple of minutes. He returned with two bags for breakfast to go. This was a great touch! Highly recommended to anyone looking for a great place to stay, right at the center of Arequipa.
