A Truly Exceptional Luxury Stay – Worth Every Penny
Our stay at Octant Furnas was unforgettable. When you think of luxury, you think of thoughtful details, convenience, and genuine warmth — and this hotel delivered all of that and more.
The staff was outstanding. Every single person we interacted with made us feel welcomed and cared for. Special thanks to Jerusa and Gabriel, who went above and beyond to celebrate my husband’s milestone birthday with a handmade “J”-shaped cake and a heartfelt song at breakfast. Moments like that stay with you.
Dining was phenomenal. The restaurant and bar offered delicious food and a beautiful ambiance. Breakfast/brunch was a highlight each morning — fresh local produce, pastries, hot dishes, and my first-ever pastel de nata (now officially obsessed).
The spa experience was exceptional. Our couples massage included access to a serene relaxation room before and after the treatment, complete with tea and cookies. It felt indulgent, peaceful, and perfectly designed.
Other touches made the stay feel even more special — walking comfortably around in a robe between services, enjoying spiced corn nuts with my evening cocktails (thanks to a bartender who noticed I loved them), and ending the night in the thermal pool, which was magical.
What meant the most was the kindness and joy the staff brought to our stay. We came to São Miguel to celebrate a milestone birthday, and we left with a deep admiration for the island and its people. Octant Furnas will be our go-to spot every time we return — and we plan to return often.
The staff was outstanding. Every single person we interacted with made us feel welcomed and cared for. This is not a five star hotel. The carpets are stained, the mirrors are cracked, the bathroom needed re grouting. A bucket was placed in the dining room collected water leaking through the roof. The telephone in the room has no instruction on how to contact reception. The sockets have no USB slots. The grounds pictured are outside of the hotel, the actual grounds are quite small and have cigarette butts littering them. The “brie” at breakfast was unmistakably laughing cow cheese triangles… I could go on.
The saving grace of this hotel is the staff who are absolutely wonderful and extremely attentive. The spa treatments were also glorious!
I’m sure this hotel was once very grand but it needs a lot of attention now. I’ve paid less to stay in the Ritz in London…

We stayed at the hotel for three nights and paid an average of €500 per night. For a five-star hotel, we honestly expected much more.
The hotel felt quite outdated, and the wellness and spa area was not well maintained. We noticed numerous spider webs, insects, and dirt throughout the spa, and it was clear that the property is showing its age and no longer reflects the photos advertised online.
To make matters worse, we experienced an invasion of around 20 cockroaches during our stay. This is simply unacceptable for a five-star hotel.
Overall, we do not believe the quality of the hotel justifies the price charged. Unfortunately, the value for money was very disappointing.

Rooms were a bit outdated and blah not making for a great place to spend time. AC in room was hit or miss and closet light didn't close. Amenities in room were simple poor man choices.
Food options were limited but local cuisine was way more expensive than local. Breakfast was so so and free so no complaint. The indoor pool, sauna were ok but consistently overbooked. Surprised no room service just water cookies at lobby. Overall the view and convenience to must see places give it light pass coupled with the AWESOME STAFF. THIS TEAM WAS THE SAVING GRACE, I would not relate this to a5 star hotel.

Beautiful hotel, amazing staff
Wow. Beautiful hotel. Beautiful property. Amazing service. 10/10! My husband and I stayed at Octant Furnas for 5 nights earlier this month. We had a wonderful time. From the moment we checked in, the staff did whatever they could to ensure we had a wonderful stay. Mauro in experiences went above and beyond. We have some very specific dietary restrictions and the hotel tried to accommodate us however they could. The pools were amazing. We got an upgrade to the room with the plunge pool, thanks to Amex platinum. HIGHLY recommend Octant Furnas!
