They ruined my holiday

Can’t nothing concretely say cause I made reservation via hostels.com and got e mail that owner of Santa Clara canceled my reservation even it was prepay with option non refundable, or if cancel 2 weeks before, they will charge me with 30%. But nobody told what they will pay me if canceled my reservation...they ruined my Holliday because now I can’t find good price for accommodation in Lisbon. Still awful

Great Location

My family and I stayed here for two nights in June. The location was perfect for seeing Lisbon and the view from the room was lovely. We also appreciated the shared kitchen for preparing some meals. The room was nice enough, but no AC so it got really hot. This was only June, so I imagine it would be way worse in July or August. The shared bathroom was fairly clean, but the style of the shower door made it hard to not get water everywhere. While we liked the house, there were some service issues that needed to be improved. When we first arrived in the afternoon, no one answered the door. We found a phone number and they told us the room would be ready in an hour. We decided to go to a nearby market to grab some groceries. On our way back, a few minutes over an hour, they called asking where we where and said we needed to come right away to be let in. It hadn’t been made clear that we needed to be there in exactly one hour from the phone call. When we arrived, we were greeted by a phone being placed in front of us asking for an extra 20 euro for cleaning. We had paid in full through a travel company and this was a huge surprise. We asked them to have the travel company confirm this extra charge. They never did, so thankfully we were not stuck paying the extra. The room was just fairly priced as we had paid for it. It would have been overpriced at an extra 20 euro. This should definitely have been disclosed at booking. I would highly recommend contacting the owners before booking to inquire about additional charges.

Poor maintenance service.

We have been staying here several days. Walls are thin, no hooks on walls to hang towels, no air conditioning, light in closet was out and the lady that checked us in was to put bulb in the next day. Didn't happen and we are here now day 6. On Day 5 we arrived home and the handle to our room fell off. We notified them immediately. Told us they would be there to fix it the next morning. Now tell us it will be two more days. Needs a screwdriver to fix it, no tools in the house to do it ourselves.
Location is decent. Washer to wash towels and clothes if necessary. Restaurants and train/metro close by.
Shared bathroom, and not all tenants are respectful. Narrow steps, and three rooms share the bathroom.
Decent kitchen well equipped. Nice view. block to Pantheon. Sunrises are gorgeous.
Mattresses are hard. Could use some memory foam for comfort.

You have written your feelings. All I will say is that the wrist of the door, I do not know how you could break it? First time in 3 years, For all the rest I would add that on all the other sites Casa Santa Clara is between 8.4 to 8.9 in annual notation.

Cheap and well located

This accomodation is relatively cheap, well located to discover the Alfama district, and if you dont't mind to walk a bit most tourist destinations are reachable pretty well. The neighborhood is very calm, night and day.
Besides this there are some downsides. There is no reception, you definitely have to make an appointment to get in the first time. The house is very badly soundproofed, there is only one bathroom on the floor, cleaning seems to happen very seldom, and one of the bedposts of our bed was wrecked.
On arrival we were charged (EUR 25 or so for 3 nights) for something we didn't quite get. The person who welcomed us said it's for taxes and it was additional to the rate we already payed in advance. It probably was for the cleaning service (but then, see above).
Altogether the price-performance ratio isn't bad. Just don't expect too much.

Disappointing service

I will start with the pros:
-Great location:
o 20 Meters from pantheon
o 5 min walk to metro
o 15-20 min walk to castle
o 30 min to main square
o Plenty of bars and restaurants in local vicinity
-Bathroom and bedroom facilities adequate. Nice that towels were provided and nice view of sea from our room.
Cons
-Area quite hilly. No issues for us but something to be aware of if this might cause you issues.
-Having to arrange a time to check in. Staff however did arrive on time.
-22 euro additional charge for cleaning. Not clear on Expedia website.
-We arrived at hotel after having been awake for 13 hours only to find out our room hadn't been cleaned and that we needed to come back in a couple of hours. Disappointing given the numerous emails before hand conforming meeting time. We were told however the we would be refunded for a nights stay and provided breakfast free of charge at local restaurant. We were still however told to pay 22 euros. Breakfast was provided for us at around 6 euros each which was nice and would recommend it. To date no refund has been provided despite numerous emails to owner. Would have been happy to have just not paid 22 euros cleaning charge however at the time was so tired didn't choose to argue this point. For this reason i would not choose to stay hear again which is disappointing. Expedia however have been helpful in the matter.

I would like to remind you that for your reservation there was an error on the booking server of Expedia.
We have done everything so that you do not have a relocation. So yes the room was not ready but we made an effort and chat with someone who arrived the next day to put it in another room because it was only two nights and you longer. We offered you a free breakfast when we did not have to., for check-in time, I would just say that we also have appointments, obligations and the slightest courtesy is to prevent us are not a hotel.
the 22 euros of which you speak are 16 euros of cleaning of your rooms + 6 euros of taxes of stays which is donated to the mayor of Lisbon and which do not remain in the pockets of the hoteliers
