Fantastic hotel, staff very friendly and so helpful with directions where to pick up buses and which bus also trams. Best places to visit. Hotel was very clean and breakfast was great. Plenty of choice too. Nice touches like biscuits in your room and on reception there is coffee and tea and also on the third floor too which was much appreciated. Would highly recommend Cale guest house.

Great stay at a boutique hotel, only seven rooms, in the heart of old town Porto. Staff, room and breakfast were all excellent. Very welcoming. Close to all the major attractions. Not good for people with mobility issues, as old building with no lift. We were on fourth floor, so our poor knees got a workout. Aside from that, would highly recommend.

Best place to stay in Porto

This is a great place to stay in Porto. Only reason I'm giving it 4 stars is due to the almost non existent wifi - we stayed 3 days and no wifi for 2 days. If you don't care about wifi then it's 5 stars (and hopefully this is something they will remedy).
Anyway, we had a room on the top floor (#7), with nice views. Room is clean and comfortable, spacious with a seating area (on lower floors you get a balcony but top floor is walled in). No fridge or electric kettle in room, however one floor down there is a shared kettle and tea bags.
Good breakfast with tasty pastries (best croissants!) and good quality cold cuts, and soft boiled eggs (in our two weeks in Portugal this is the only hotel that had soft boiled eggs!)
Staff is friendly and helpful - I messaged with questions and they always answered promptly. They also give you an overview of sights when you arrive.
Location is convenient, can walk to anywhere and there are a couple of small grocery stores a block or two away. From the train station about 15 mins walk (with luggage) straight down cobble stoned shopping street Flores.
Building is secure with keypad entry for guests.
Note that there are no elevators and with high ceilings the top floor is a bit of climb up. Then again the whole city of Porto is hilly so climbing is unavoidable here. And if facing the front higher floor is less noisy in the evenings - there are bands playing nearby usually till 10 pm.

I recommend it.

The receptionists were very kind and friendly. One of them served us Port wine while we waited and some custard tarts.
The rooms are very clean, the breakfast is very good and organized. It is right in the center. The only downside is that it does not have an elevator and we were on the top floor, but well, we are not that old and we could go up fine.

The staff, especially Rachel and Michael Angelo, were incredibly helpful and kind. The stairs can be a bit challenging if you’re not used to them, but the staff’s care and attention, the lovely breakfast, and the building’s charm more than make up for it. It’s a small hotel, which makes the experience feel especially personal — almost as if you’re the only guest in the house, with every need thoughtfully taken care of.
