Solid budget hotel. Good stay.

I read the reviews on TA after having booked a room here. And I dreaded coming here as the reviews were so negative.
But it turned out to be ok!
Yes, this place has no frills, but it's clean and comfortable for a few nights in Porto.
Actually, our room was tidied up every day, and every day they changed the towels.
The staff on reception do not speak English, but they are friendly and do try to help.
All in all it was comfortable, I'd stay here again...

Awful Experience! Will Never be back

As soon as me and my boyfriend walked through the door we were shouted at
Because apparently he wanted us to ring the bell before walking in and was saying that is rude to walk through people's houses without knocking first, even though that's a "hotel", not a house.
Kept on shouting and raising his voice at me and my boyfriend. Then I tried to re-start the situation and asked what was the check-in time as on hotels.com is says 1AM what he started shouting at me again saying if it says 1AM it's because I changed it and that I'm stupid because nowhere in the world you can do a check-in at 1AM. I tried to explain that's a website and couldn't change those kind of settings myself and he just kept on shouting at me and insulting me (in portuguese as he refuses to say a word in any other language)
After shouting and constantly insulting me and my boyfriend for 10 minutes we decided we didn't want to stay in that place as like this wasn't enough, the place was dirty and smelled bad.
Then I wasn't shout at again when I asked for my money back as we wanted to leave, he insulted me again saying all the payments are made at reception (you have to add your card details when booking) and last but not the least, when I was mentioning that I had to add my card details at hotels.com he had the balls to say he doesn't work with hotels.com even though I booked the room through hotels.com app
This was a horrible experience and quite traumatic. We were shouted at, insulted and disrespected.
Don't book that place!!

Did the job

Basic, but clean and comfortable enough. Did the job for a few days in Porto. Staff don’t speak much if any English but you can get by with pointing at things and smiling :) . Conveniently close to Marquês metro stop, and only a 20ish minute stroll to the old city and the riverside.

Horrible experience. So unhappy.

Arrived late, after a five hour plane delay. Was shown to a basement room which was dark and horrible. The air conditioning did not work. The wardrobe door would not shut and there was only one hanger and no where to put clothes, not even a chair. There was a plastic sheet on mattress, which I removed immediately. The bathroom was filthy and the shower head just fell apart. But this was not my worst experience. I came back to the room early evening to get my sweater and had someone with me and we were going into the city centre. The man on the desk hurled into a very dramatic and threatening manner about the room being for one person. We explained to him that we were just getting my sweater and that only I was staying. He was threatening me and poking his finger right in my face. I told him that I would leave and packed my bags and asked for a refund but he refused. I contacted my bank and told them and they are going to raise it with the hotel. Horrible experience and no reason for this except that my travel partner was

Worst experience ever!!!!!!!!

The old man at reception is extremely rude. No one here speaks any English at all. The room I'm in is tiny, cold, dark and dingy. Look at the picture I've uploaded - the reality is far worse. I asked for boiled water to put in my hot water bottle and they refused. I asked to be moved to a better room and they refused. There is no a/c. It's my first time in Portugal but I'm ready to go back to Spain.
At some point in our exchange he pointed to his skin on his hand . I have no idea what that had to do with my requests. I suspect he's racist too.
