One of the most beautiful places I've met during my world trips.

Arriving at the hotel on a short ferry with a boat waiting for guests. Our hosts were amazing. Thanks to Alfonsine and Alexei. Great service from the staff. The chef prepares excellent meals. There is plenty to do in the surrounding area. Lake cruises for a hive tour or just jump to the magnificent hotel on the opposite side of the lake. Walking on the nearby mainland of the island means all the lake language. And of course an hour's drive away there is the tour of gorilla watching.

BEAUTIFUL LODGE …….difficult to access!

Beautiful island location that is a challenge to access. A high clearance vehicle is required for the last 15km and there is limited sign posting to assist in finding the lodge. The room was well appointed and clean and the staff were very friendly and professional. This is a place to relax as there is nothing to do on the island aside from doing an evening boat tour. The food on the lunch and dinner menu was tasty but basic and very overpriced at $25 per person per meal.

One of a kind experience!

I stayed on the island for 3 days and somehow was the only guest on the island! I had a fantastic stay and cannot recommend this experience enough. The views of the lake and mountains were extraordinary. In the morning I enjoyed watching and listening to the many species of birds on the island. In the afternoon, I enjoyed listening and watching the bees (Try the fresh honey which is often served at breakfast!), and in the evening you can hear the frogs! It was so relaxing to be in nature, but also have all the comforts of home. Jean (The manager) was incredible. He and the owners of the retreat made me feel like I was family and they went out of their way to welcome me and make sure I had a great experience. The food was exceptional and I slept very well in my room. The other benefit they have to offer is they were able to arrange transportation from Musanze city to the island and to Kigali. So after my Gorilla tour in Uganda with Bamboo Eco tours, I was able to be dropped off in Musanze city and Jean and a driver came to pick me up (For a reasonable cost). This option to me was way better than renting a car. I highly recommend the island as a unique and one of kind experience that you will always remember! Thank you Ruhondo Island retreat for the stay of a lifetime!
