I came skeptical. I left already planning my return.
I'll be honest: I came to Balvanyos half curious, half skeptical. I left wishing I'd booked an extra three days.
We stayed in the President Apartment, and it set the tone for the entire visit. The space is generous, quietly luxurious, and peaceful. No noise from the corridors, no thin walls, no sense of being in a busy hotel. Just stillness. The view from the window is the kind that makes you just sitting and looking out more than once, which is something I never do on trips.
The cleanliness was impeccable not just the apartment, but every common area, every wellness space.
The restaurant covers a lot of ground and does it well. Meat dishes are particularly strong, and the local influences come through in a way that feels authentic rather than touristy. That said, if you're vegetarian or simply prefer lighter meals, you might find yourself wishing for more options. The soup and salad selection is limited for a property of this caliber, more creative approach to plant-based dishes would make the dining experience complete.
Now, the wellness and this is really why you should come.
The mofeta sessions were something I hadn't experienced before and didn't fully understand until I was in one. Natural CO2 baths, used therapeutically for generations in this region, with measurable effects on blood circulation and cardiovascular function. After two sessions I noticed my legs felt lighter, my sleep was deeper, and a background tension I'd been carrying for weeks had quietly dissolved. The staff explain everything clearly beforehand, and the whole experience feels medically grounded.
For anyone dealing with stress, burnout, or a nervous system that's been running on overdrive, this place works.
A few things I'd love to see improved: more vegetarian-friendly mains, a rotating soup of the day, and perhaps a small herbal tea menu in the wellness area. Small things that would elevate an already excellent experience.
Would I return? Already looking at dates.

Panorama Villas – very different experience from the hotel, poor value for money / Vilele Panorama – experiență foarte d
Am stat într-o cameră la Balvanyos Resort – Vila Panorama 2. Zona este foarte frumoasă, complexul în sine este bine cunoscut și are facilități bune. Restaurantele din corpurile principale ale hotelurilor sunt ok, mâncarea a fost bună, iar experiența per total în zona restaurantelor a fost plăcută. Personalul a fost în general amabil, deși au existat și câteva momente în care unii chelneri păreau destul de iritați când eram nevoiți să îi solicităm de mai multe ori pentru a comanda.
Problema principală a fost însă cazarea în vilele Panorama, iar nota pe care o acord reflectă strict experiența cu aceste vile.
În primul rând, vilele Panorama sunt amplasate la aproximativ 200 m de corpurile principale ale hotelului, pe cealaltă parte a drumului. Ele par mai degrabă construite separat, pe o parcelă de teren izolată, și dau impresia că nu au aproape nicio legătură cu hotelurile Balvanyos sau Peakture din complex. Practic, experiența este destul de diferită față de cea din hotelurile principale.
Camera în sine este funcțională, însă raportul calitate–preț este mult sub așteptări. În pozele atașate se vede destul de clar lipsa de atenție la detalii și întreținerea slabă în timp. De exemplu, biroul de la etaj este efectiv despicat pe lungimea lemnului, iar în mai multe locuri se văd urme de rășină/ceară care curg din lambriuri.
În baie se pot observa urme de rugină la elementele metalice, depuneri pe baterii și accesorii care nu par curățate corespunzător. De asemenea, anumite finisaje sunt făcute destul de neglijent.
Un detaliu care ridică semne de întrebare este și balustrada scării spre etaj, realizată dintr-o tablă îndoită care poate zgâria ușor degetele când urci.
De asemenea, spațiul de dormit de la etaj arată practic ca o saltea aruncată direct pe podea, așa cum se vede și în poze. Nu ar fi neapărat o problemă într-o cazare simplă sau ieftină, dar cu siguranță nu la un tarif de aproximativ 250 de euro pe noapte.
Nu sunt lucruri care să facă șederea imposibilă, dar sunt exact genul de detalii care contează atunci când plătești un preț destul de mare pentru cazare într-un resort de acest nivel.
Concluzia mea este simplă: camera ar fi fost perfect acceptabilă dacă ar fi costat aproximativ jumătate din prețul plătit. În forma actuală, raportul calitate–preț este dezechilibrat, mai ales comparat cu camerele din hotelurile Balvanyos sau Peakture din același complex.
De menționat că nota acordată reflectă strict experiența cu vilele Panorama, care par pur și simplu din alt film față de restul complexului.
We stayed in a room at Balvanyos Resort – Panorama Villa 2. The area is beautiful, the resort itself is well known and has good facilities. The restaurants in the main hotel buildings were good, the food was tasty and overall the dining experience was pleasant. The staff was generally polite, although there were a few moments when some waiters seemed a bit irritated when we had to call them several times to place our order.
However, the main issue was the accommodation in the Panorama Villas, and the rating I give reflects strictly this part of the resort.
First of all, the Panorama Villas are located about 200 meters away from the main hotel buildings, on the other side of the road. They feel quite separate from the main resort area and almost give the impression that they have little connection with the Balvanyos or Peakture hotel buildings. The experience is therefore quite different from staying in the main hotel.
The room itself is functional, but the value for money is far below expectations. From the photos it is quite clear that there is a lack of attention to details and poor maintenance over time. For example, the desk upstairs is literally split along the wood grain, and in several places you can see resin or wax leaking from the wooden paneling.
In the bathroom there are visible rust marks on metal elements, limescale deposits on the faucets and accessories that do not appear to be properly cleaned. Some of the finishes also look rather poorly executed.
Another questionable detail is the stair railing leading to the upper level, which is made from a bent metal sheet that can easily scratch your fingers when going up the stairs.
Also, the sleeping area upstairs looks like a mattress simply placed on the floor, as can be seen in the photos. This might not necessarily be an issue in a simple or budget accommodation, but certainly not at a rate of around 250 euros per night.
These are not problems that make the stay impossible, but they are exactly the kind of details that matter when you pay a premium price for accommodation in a resort of this level.
My conclusion is simple: the room would have been perfectly acceptable if it had cost around half of the price we paid. In its current condition, the value for money is quite poor, especially compared with the rooms in the Balvanyos and Peakture hotel buildings within the same resort.
It is important to mention that the rating reflects strictly the experience in the Panorama Villas, which feel like they belong to a completely different standard compared with the rest of the complex.

Super family friendly
This was a really nice surprise. Came looking for a quiet weekend with our 4 year old to rest a bit. Everything and everyone was great. The kids friendly spa is very well thought, besides the great pool for kids, there is a swimming pool. At most kids spa places, as adult, you have to find yourself some little uncomfortable place from where to watch them. Not here, kids can be supervised, while parents can also enjoy. Water is clean and warm in all pools and jacuzzis. The adults only spa is also huge and nice. Overall the resort is big and despite being full (judging by the full parking), it never felt crowded. Food was also very good at both forest and gastro lab restaurants. Service was a bit slow but kind, plus we didn’t mind because the atmosphere with camp fire was really nice. Rooms clean and comfortable. And the nature is very beautiful. And for those afraid of bears, the hotel works with authorities: we were told at reception that when a mama bear with her 3 cubs came visiting, the resort made sure to safely relocate her.
