A good 4* hotel in a cozy neighbourhood
Stayed in this Mercure on Stevens for 2 nights in April before our cruise with Disney Adventure.
It is situated in a quiet neighbourhood along Stevens road and the closest MRT is like 15 minutes walk away from Stevens MRT. However, if you have the energy, a 25 to 30 minutes walk will take you to Orchard Rd, where most of the shopping centres are. Either way is a nice and easy walk AS LONG AS it was not raining heavily. Alternatively you can just take the bus right in front of the hotel and 2 stops will take you right in the heart of the Orchard Road district. There is also the shuttle bus option but that was not very frequent so we didn't bother.
We had a twin room on the 9th floor. The room was on the smaller side (18m2) but that's expected in Singapore and they already advertised the size in the booking so there was no surprise. Having said that, it was sufficient for us as we went out most of the time. The bathroom was clean, modern and bigger than we thought, especially the shower area. Minibar was included which had 2 cans of water, juices and beers.
We didn't have too much time to explore the hotel itself but we saw the pool and there was a 7-11 convenience store at Novotel (which was next to Mercure). This was most welcome as there were no other shops nearby in the neighbourhood so if you would need something to eat u had to visit those restaurants at the two hotels.
At the lobby was a Killim café which was actually a branch of a relatively old brand and served local style breakfast like Kaya toast, semi-boiled eggs and kopi, and they did not disappoint.
I think if you don't mind to do a bit of walking to the nearest city centre, then this hotel is a good place to stay, and there is a Novotel nearby if you fancy a higher end hotel. For us Mercure was sufficient for our stay.
During our stay there was some kind of digging going on outside the lobby. The noise was definitely deafening and this made it impossible to have a conversation with the reception staff. Luckily the workers stopped working when the night came.

My GENUINE and FAIR review
Check in after midnight by Faizul was pleasant and efficient. I got upgraded to a room of higher class with complementary mini bar consumption but the room size and deco were no different from an ordinary superior room.
My first impression on the corridor leading to the room was disappointing as the white washed room doors were all stained and damaged, carpet was not vacuumed properly leaving visible debris on the ground. All the walls along the corridor were experiencing severe wear and tear.
Inside the room, it was clean in general other than finding a used tissue paper under the bed. (I cleaned it up myself as did not want to sleep over something unhygienic). Moreover, wall papers were coming off. Bedding quality reflected the budget standards but bearable. Air-conditioning worked well with the right temperature and neither noisy. However, the water pressure in the shower was rather weak, taking a longer time to wash off.
The room rates were less steep in comparison to other lodging options in Singapore as it was somewhat off the actions and not too accessible by mass transit locating in a residential neighbourhood.
I did not have breakfast here so no comment on food and beverage.
Overall, if the price was right, I had no hesitation to return in the future. One genuine tip for sharing, never took the non- refundable options at booking especially months before your stay as the price would very likely to go down and that applied to my booking here.

Good stay !!!
Hotel locations little off main streets but equipped with many restaurants and a seven eleven. Hotel provides shuttle bus to main streets Orchard Road. Because it’s co-located with Novotel, Novotel food and beverage are available to Mercure guests too. General staffs service attitudes varies from good to average. Have lost a watch and expensive creams in room before when room is being cleaned. Front desk staffs, notably Gopi and Amanda deserves lots of admirations but generally all front desk staffs are efficient and patience. Nicest swimming pools amongst most Mercure and Novotel hotels in Singapore.
