Located in Downtown Kenner, a neighborhood in Kenner, Contempra Inn is near the airport. Bourbon Street is a notable landmark, and the area's natural beauty can be seen at Audubon Park and Jackson Square. Check out an event or a game at Pontchartrain Center, and consider making time for Audubon Zoo, a top attraction not to be missed. Along with a snack bar/deli, this smoke-free motel has laundry facilities and a 24-hour front desk. Free WiFi in public areas and free self parking are also provided. Location vs price vs offering - excellent
Didn’t want to spend silly money for a short stay just needed somewhere clean and comfortable with the right amenities in the right location
The Contempra Inn looked like it might fit the bill… albeit with some very mixed reviews
Now we’ve been around (see reviews) including some very nice, but at a different price point with some over 10x the cost per night
My take with that in mind, at the price point the Contempra Inn operates at - great at what it’s doing
If you are looking for an 5*hotel for this money you probably need to get real
This is a classic budget chalet style / motel format and the price reflects the offering well
As for the stay
The check in was on time
The chap checking us in was on it and likewise we had what he needed handy (ID, credit card etc) so it went smoothly
Happy to see they had a lift to get up to second floor :)
The room was clean as was everything in it (cleaner than some other much pricier properties I might add, especially when the detail catches your eye which it does mine) including skirting and ledges on plugs etc. thorough!
It was a decent size with comfy beds, fresh linens and a useful handful of little extras like soap, toothpaste etc (I’d rather have that than a shoe shine kit and makeup remover pads!)
It also had (again some hotels at more $ don’t!) some good touches implemented - like a fan near beds (ontop of the ac unit that worked fine) and a good sized bank of plugs and usb for use (for a change, hurrah)
Also noted things like lamps and shades could have been those cheap ones with the nasty ‘cardboard’ looking drum shades, but they had nice ginger jars with pleated; similarly curtains were clean and looked very fresh and substantial
Fridge also spotless not that we used, also massive with micro - could see its handy if you wanted a few days without eating out to save some $
Sure the bathroom is a bit dated (yet when the same tap fixtures are in the New Yorker or the Edison they are ‘vintage’). But also what other hotels come with a duck!!! And you get to take him or her home!
Some of the furniture mightn’t be to all tastes - but I didn’t have any issue in having a large handy table and a bonus smaller table with two chairs!
Might not be to my taste if it was in my house - but it’s not and it was clean and functional not something I’m living with for half a decade
Also worth bearing in mind that at the end of the day they are running a business - simple formulas - charge more, more revenue to invest in fancying it up quicker, or charge less but renew things slower (if it’s not broke why fix it)
I felt they struck a really good balance between the two for the price point they were pitching at
There was, at some point some effort jazzing up of the outside entry that would benefit from a mini refresh of the artificial plants etc if the budget permits (kerb appeal and all that), likewise another bench if waiting a few mins for check in or to just sit out for a spell would be a low cost but welcome addition
So overall - you get what you pay for and in this case that isn’t bad if that’s what you want to pay - as it’s clean and comfy
If you have champagne tastes on a beer budget this ain’t the place for you
Ps also loved the fact they’d put some art up that was locally relevant rather than the random multi colour blobs of crap up in other hotels to be ‘edgy’
