Great stay!

Had the Bear Room which was spacious and clean with beautiful views.
While they no longer serve dinner, the included breakfast was wonderful, with a full menu to choose from (bacon, eggs, pancakes, etc)
Note: this property is up for sale so go now while it’s still operating as a lodge

Incredible place!

We stayed several nights with our large dogs and it was the highlight of our trip. Amazing staff, huge rooms, beautiful lodge with million dollar views. Breakfast is wonderful, best pancakes and eggs we’ve had in decades. They took care of every need we had and didn’t just tolerate our dogs, but welcomed them. The location is unbeatable- surrounded by fields of wildflowers with a view of Mt. Katahdin, East Grand Lake and Canada in the distance. Great fishing and hiking nearby. The staff is amazing. They welcome ATVers and snowmobilers, but is still quiet and romantic. Highly recommend!

Welcome to the Wonderful Woods

My family has been coming to this area since I was 4 years old. The fishing is fantastic. You can explore logging roads for days. The views are incredible. The history is interesting. As we get older, we now combine this rustic visit back to nature with great service and excellent food. Denise and Wayne are welcoming, and we are finding a great breakfast and steak and scallops for dinner, to be preferable to baked beans over a campfire or sleeping on a cot. We get to combine the beauty of the area with a first rate lodging experience. Win, win.

Beautiful, cozy lodge!

Wonderful, gracious owners. Ready to accommodate your every need. Beautiful rooms that are spacious and cozy at the same time. Food is amazing! Make sure you stay for dinner! Everything is completely homemade and delicious!! Beautiful setting to see amazing sunsets!

Lovely find, lovely atmosphere, wonderful stay!

If you had told me that in the dead middle of Maine I would experience one of the best hotel/B&B experiences of my life, I would have scoffed and laughed out loud. In fact, I almost did when a local man we asked about lodging on a dark late night in August suggested this place when my family was on the road and didn't want to drive another 30 miles to find shelter. First Settler's Lodge was an amazing suggestion. It is run by a very warm couple, Wayne and Denise, who welcomed us into what is essentially their home. Freshly cooked to order breakfast is included in the stay. There are a small number of rooms and some, like the Bunk Room, can hold a large number of people. We were given the Lodge Room, which overlooked the front of the house and had amazing views of Mt. Katahdin. Our room was just lovely, clean and spacious, decked out in the most tasteful way with decor reminiscent of a mountain lodge. My only regret is that we could only stay one night (and that it is very far away from my home base). Do yourself a favor and book yourself in here if you are within 40 miles of it. You will not regret it.
