Not what it says in the Tin
Recent stay at Captain Morgan House, Tenerife, which was booked through Agoda as a Superior Double Room.
The accommodation bore little resemblance to the description and photographs used in the advertisement and fell significantly below acceptable standards. The listing was, in my view, misleading and inaccurate.
Key issues include:
• The “Superior Double Room” was a basic hostel-style room off a corridor, with no superior features whatsoever.
• The photographs and advertised views did not match the actual room. The only window we found in the property , which was not even in our room faced a front garden and was permanently covered by a metal shutter.
• The advertised “mini bar” consisted only of a very small fridge containing two bottles of water.
• “High-quality linens” were thin, worn, and contained holes.
• Toiletries were limited to cheap hand soap dispensers at the sink and in the shower.
• The shower tray was too small, causing water to flood the bathroom floor.
• Insects were present on the bathroom floor.
• Access to facilities required walking up a fire escape.
• The shared kitchen was unhygienic, with dirty dishes left in the sink and meat hanging in an outside area attracting insects in the cooking and preparation area .
• There was no private on-site car park as advertised—only a public car park nearby.
• The location was misrepresented as a lively, romantic promenade area; it is in fact surrounded by private housing, poorly lit at night, and felt unsafe.
No pool - as advertised
The description portraying the property as “romantic,” “pampering,” and “delightful” was entirely inaccurate. At no point did I feel comfortable or relaxed during my stay. Felt more like I was staying in an HMO
Due to concerns about cleanliness, on returning home we were forced to isolate our luggage, wash all clothing immediately, and thoroughly clean everything before allowing it into our living space.
There are extent discrepancies between the advertised listing and the reality, the accommodation is 100% not as described.
I have been visiting Tenerife for the last 40 years 3-4 a year this is the only time I’ve had a need to complain. Unfortunately this was booked last minute for the last two days of our holiday , the pervious two weeks we enjoyed lovely accommodation.
