Had a fantastic stay. Room was clean and extremely comfortable; staff were friendly and helpful; location was quiet but centrally located, convenient, and nearby nice restaurants, cafes and nightlife. Would happily stay again.

Living in a Cocoon!

We stayed at Room Mate Alicia for 5 nights and were extremely disappointed by the lack of transparency regarding the major renovation work taking place during our stay.
At the time of booking, the hotel listing displayed attractive photos of the property with no indication that any construction or renovation work was actively underway. Upon arrival, we discovered extensive work affecting the hotel environment, including noise, disruption, blocked areas, and an overall experience very different from what had been advertised.
The location of the hotel is excellent, the breakfast was delicious, and the employees were polite and efficient.
We could have rented a room with no windows, at least there would not have been this cocoon surprise!
The fact that we reserved a hotel without any mention of any disruption for our stay by the hotel nor the booking site we used is unacceptable and we are pursuing legal action.

We sincerely regret that your experience did not meet your expectations, and we are sorry for any inconvenience this situation may have caused.
We would like to clarify that the building where the hotel is located is situated in the historic center of Madrid, and the works currently being carried out on the exterior façade are mandatory by order of the City Council to ensure the preservation of the city’s architectural heritage. These works are beyond the hotel’s control and form part of the essential urban maintenance required in this protected area.
We would also like to emphasize that no interior areas of the hotel are blocked, nor is any work being carried out inside the building. Additionally, we inform all our guests prior to their arrival, precisely so they can choose the option that best suits their preferences.
Management has ensured that the working hours are strictly limited, in order to guarantee the rest and comfort of our guests throughout their stay.

Great hotel! They're doing renovations, but it barely impacted our stay (it was just a little trickier to find the front door, and we didn't have much of a view in our room). This was clearly communicated by the hotel well in advance.
Breakfast hours were very generous, and selection was solid. Room was very cute, with a nice seating area. Bathroom/shower layout might be awkward if you're travelling with someone who isn't a romantic partner (the shower opens directly into the bedroom).
Close by to lots of shops, restaurants, and theatres.

We should have been informed with more than 48 hours notice that major repair work was underway at the hotel. The entire facade was wrapped in scaffolding and tarps, so looking out our suite window entailed looking through a construction site. That said, the work was mainly painting and there was not much noise.
The hotel is otherwise very pleasant. The location on Plaza Santa Ana is ideal. And the staff, particularly Sabina, was very helpful. The breakfast buffet is terrific, and open until noon.

Excellent location but odd rooms, no view due to refurbishment and open bathroom

The location of the hotel is excellent and it is within a 15 min walk from all major tourist attractions. The hotel staff are helpful and the breakfast was good.
On the negative side, there is a refurbishment ongoing so all the windows are blocked (they informed us beforehand of this) - so no views. Also the rooms are really odd shaped with many corners. The bathroom area is open with no privacy, so if you are with children or friends that can be a real problem. The shower was also leaking water outside.
Overall, I would say you are paying for the location but not much else.
