A beautiful apartment but wait a year or two
This is a bright and spacious apartment with a beautiful view of the cove below from the balcony. I could have sat there forever as it was shady most of the day. You go to sleep to the sound of the sea. Shutters kept it secure and cool if you went out. The lift was a blessing for weary legs and we met someone staying who was in a wheelchair. The pool looked inviting but in September it was absolutely freezing. Even children wouldn't stay in for more than a minute or two. The sea was warmer and it is a blue flag beach all along. We had everything we needed in the apartment although the bedding was a little small for the bed and it creaked terribly when you got up. The mattress was reasonably comfy. The rest of the flat was showing signs of wear and the bathroom sink took ages to drain. However, when I read another review mentioning nearby roadworks, I called the agent. It was the last day I could have cancelled. They assured me the works were minor and would be finished by the time I arrived. This was not the case. The council have installed a whole new prom right along half the town where a road would have wound along the coves. I learned this has been going on for a year. Most of the paving is done but there are still rollers and diggers moving around and big holes here and there. A nearby drain needed work while we were there and the noise and stench made it unpleasant to sit outside. On arrival to collect the keys we found the office closed. It was not until someone else turned up looking for their keys in a letterbox that we found ours left there. We found it confusing to find the property as access roads to the accomodations were shut off, as was access to the coves and some access along the prom itself. Without any instructions we had to park on nearby wasteland and lug cases. We discovered later that outraged residents moved the barriers every day so we did still go down to the beaches but the steps are unfinished. Mostly, it was not noisy for us as there seem to be only a few men working on it. If they ever finish, it will be a thing of beauty. In the meantime, the place is deserted with many restaurants unsurprisingly closed. We wanted a relaxing, quiet holiday and certainly got that. There is an excellent supermarket just past the wasteland so cooking was not an issue. Only one restaurant opened for a few days a week and it was excellent, Chez Lorenzos. The rest of the time we had no choice but to drive out to the centre or other end of town or beyond. When it came to leaving, the agent still would not face us and asked that we leave the keys on the table, not so simple when you needed keys to get out the gate! This is a lovely location and in a year or two it will be superb once the businesses open up again. Still, I won't trust the agent again.
