Best home stay in Sigiriya

Very welcoming as soon as you arrive, amazing bedroom with private balcony (you can see the monkeys from), huge bathroom with an amazing shower! Comfortable beds. Free breakfast given with a good selection of food which is different every morning, all staff are amazing and make you feel very welcome! Private safari ride organized by home stay which was a wonderful experience the driver got us very close to the elephants and took us to a location where it wasn’t overcrowded with other jeeps, the driver was very informative with all his knowledge on elephant, we learnt so much. Our home stay took us to see the firefly’s in his back garden, amazing once in a life time experience! Bikes given so that you can ride into town and look at the beautiful lions ride and shop around the village. Would 100% recommend and go back the house was like a palace ❤️

Accommodation and management issues
• There was a live frog in the bathroom.
• The kake futon is only one thin blanket.
• There is no Japanese owner, and it is managed solely by local Sri Lankans.
Notes on Sri Lankan co-owners
• Car arrangements in particular should be avoided. As a result of the request, we ran into two problems.
Trouble 1: Airport -> via Dambulla -> Iwamiso
• As the flight was delayed for an hour, they suggested that the flight to Dambulla be rescheduled to the next day for a direct flight.
• When he refused, he was instructed to transfer to another taxi in Dambulla, but the transfer did not actually occur and he arrived in the same car.
Trouble 2: Herilance Kandalama -> Colombo Tourism -> Airport
• "After sightseeing in Colombo, we had dinner and arrived at the airport around 21:00," he explained beforehand, asking for a $60 advance plus a $50 back payment.
• The car's air conditioning was broken on the day and the driver kept coughing.
• After arriving in Colombo, the driver claimed that he had not heard of any tourist plans, and the co-owner denied it.
• His attitude changed when he suggested reporting to the Japanese owner and he was sent to the airport as planned.
• He was exhausted by the hot ride and became unwell upon his return.

We Were Robbed in Our Hotel Room – Staff Member Stole €300

This place should be avoided at all costs.
During our one-night stay, we were ROBBED of €300 in cash — and we are 100% certain it was done by one of the staff, a middle-aged man (around 50 years old) who works there and presents himself as “friendly and helpful.”
He approached us the night we arrived, acting overly kind and relaxed. At one point, he even asked to change €10 notes into a €50, clearly using the opportunity to see how much cash we were carrying.
We never left our bag unattended except briefly during breakfast, when we left the room unlocked. That’s when it happened.
Shortly after, this same man accompanied us to the bus station, smiling and joking — and it was right there that we discovered €300 had been taken from our bag. No doubt, he entered the room and stole the money.
This was not a misunderstanding. It was deliberate, calculated theft by someone working at the hotel.
We chose not to go to the police to avoid wasting time and ruining the rest of our trip — but people need to know:
This hotel is NOT safe.
At least one staff member is a THIEF.
Do NOT trust anyone here, no matter how “friendly” they seem.
Absolutely unacceptable. Disgraceful. Travelers, protect yourselves and stay far away.

Tranquility with value for money

Situated in middle of lush green forest with a beautiful view of the ancient Sigiriya Rock.
Staff is absolutely friendly, and facilities have exceeded my expectations. Rooms are spacious with good facilities and food was presented in such a nice manner.

Great place with Amazing Hosts and free Bikes!

We stayed as a family of 5 in 2 rooms. The rooms are spacioua, light and spotlessly clean. Our rooms both had a little seating area overlooking the gardens. There was bottles of water in the room upon arrival. From the moment we arrived, the staff couldnt have been more helpful. Taking our bags to the room, serving smoothies at check in, booking tuktuks, free bike hire, and just super friendly. They were amazing. The bikes were an added bonus. We literally cycled everywhere. Breakfast was delicious and the evening meals were very good too. The dinner cost was very similar to nearby restaurants. Would 100% recommend to anyone visiting Sigiriya!
