Home sweet home
Very helpful, friendly staff!! Great food and service. It felt more like home. It's a small family owned hotel, the rooms are clean, beds are comfortable and the ocean is just a few steps away.
You can watching the fisherman at work and get a good feel of daily life in a small fishing village.

Excessive prices for an unattractive place
We were given a tiny dirty room, no hot water asking for an exorbitant price, complaining we were moved to a slightly larger room; the location is in front of the long beach of the village, where the sea is dirty and gray and wavy, at least the days we visited it, near very expensive restaurants on the beach; excessive prices for a tourist village without any special features that can justify such costs.

Good place to stay one night and go whale watching/Pigeon Island
Our car rental driver suggested this place for 1 night’s stay in Trinco. This was the only night we had not pre-booked online. We wanted to go Whale watching and snorkeling in Pigeon island, so our driver suggested that the owner of this place can help with all these. We spoke on the phone and the prices quoted were reasonable, so we agreed for an a/c triple room and whale watching, Pigeon Island snorkeling combo.
This review is for all the services. Firstly, if I had read the previous hotel reviews on TripAdvisor, I may not have gone there. But my stay was mostly ok so I’m giving it a positive review.
The room was clean and modern. We were only given 2 sheets for 3 beds, but we realized this too late to bother anyone. They gave us several Wi-Fi passwords, none worked. It was as if we were the first guest to ask for it in 5 years. Try this, try that, try with capitals, try with small letters. Finally, I told my disappointed kids to give up wasting time and go to sleep.
Beds and sleep was comfy. A/c worked fine.
Early morning (6am), we went for the Whale safari arranged by the owner’s boat enterprise. We had good sightings, but long before the other boats were departing, our skipper turned the boat around and sped coastward. I argued that we were promised a 3.5 hours trip the night before but they claimed this was normally only 2 hours but max 3 hours in case whales were hard to find. Since we had already seen some, it was time to get back. But they grudgingly agreed to return to the whale area and spend another 15 minutes during which we saw the best 2-3 sightings we would’ve missed otherwise.
Dolphin sightings were also good but felt rushed. The attitude was “OK, you’ve seen them, we’ve spent a few minutes now let’s go back.”, rather than “lets relax here for 20 minutes and watch them play”
We came back for breakfast. They gave us a decent western breakfast with fruit platters. Then we went to Pigeon Island in another of the owner’s boat (which arrived after some delay). They provided life jackets and snorkels, and that really was the best experience of our trip. The guide was simply super. Since we were not confident swimmers, he took us by hand literally, swam with us, showed us all the fish and corals. He took us on two supervised dives each about 30 minutes or so. Then we spent another 30 minutes or longer just relaxing at the beach shallows. We spent about 3 hours on that trip. I think our comments about the whale trip made them work a bit harder to give us a good experience on Pigeon Island.
On our return they let us use the communal showers before our onward journey. Location wise the hotel opens on to the beach, but this is not the main Uppavelli beach, but a rather littered section. You must walk about 10 minutes to get to the clean area where the whale safari boats are.
The owner and his wife were very pleasant and helpful, I’ve got no complaints there.

Pleasant stay
- staff were friendly
- five minute walk up the beach to restaurants
- out of season so i didn't eat here and my dorm had only myself in it
- I went whale watching which was really good
- even though it was out of season I still had a nice time and the staff were friendly
- rooms were clean, bathroom clean and well maintained garden area
- be careful walking down the beach alone at night
- overall pleasant two night stay, the beaches aren't so clean however for two nights whale watching/pigeon island and chilling I had a nice time, also nice to watch the fishermen bring on their catch in a morning

Horrible service and experience
I arrived to no electricity which was totally unavoidable by the property owner, we sat in the dark and negotiated a price, still paid far more then I needed too. Eventually the power came on, dorm had good lockers for bags but he AC was unplugged and the sheets were scratchy, dirty and not clean. Bathrooms had no toilet tissue (BYO). The wifi didn’t work, I spoke with the manger/owner and he magically made it work, but as soon as he left the office the wifi died.....magic controlling powers. I spoke with him and asked if he understood how unpleasant the situation with the wifi was, constantly asking for bathroom paper, having his young boy unplug the AC in our room twice and the general vibe of the hostel and he just ignored me. DO NOT STAY HERE NO MATTER WHAT! I asked “do you understand that one of your customers is unhappy?” And he said “I understand” and just walked away. Disgusting
