Old colonial building, excellent location, good price

The old building is a bit run down, but is located right in the center of Paramaribo. We stayed for about a week in room #5 (with door to balcony). The room rate was very good.
We used the balcony a lot. Also, we used to take a little dive in the small backyard swimming pool in the afternoon to cool down.
Friendly staff.
This hostel is excellent for an authentic Paramaribo experience.

Insane misery

Very emotionally unstable staff, on the spot with my father (old man) and my son (toddler) and was refused because of addressing the manager because of her unprofessional attitude towards my father and not thinking about the Customer. It has been better that the persons were never born there.

Very good price and location

We were three friends that stayed in room #4 for about three weeks. The guesthouse was an old colonial home similar to all the other charming houses on the same street.
The room was large and they cleaned it every second or third day. We had a mini kitchen with microwave, a refrigerator and a sink. Nescafé was available in the room as well as an electric water heater. The air condition was noisy but it worked. Unfortunately we only had only cold water in the shower. The bathroom was very small and it was almost impossible to close the door when we used the toilet. Breakfast was available in the lobby are for a small charge. Outside our room was a comfortable sitting area with a hammock. We never used the small pool in the back yard.
The reception staff was friendly and helpful. As far as location this guesthouse was very nicely located in the old section of the town. If you are on a travel budget and looking for a safe and friendly place I recommend Alberga Alberga Guesthouse.

Nice central place in the capital

A lovely stay in the capital
PROS:
- location: central to the tourist areas of Paramaribo
- swimming pool
- restaurant inside home. Didn't eat here though, only purchased cold drinks
- towel and linens are included
- free wifi
- strong fan in room to cut the hot heat of Suriname
- balcony was a great way to spend the evening people watching and getting to know the other tourists staying there too

- helpful and accommodating: made sure to help us whenever we needed help

The mosquitos enjoyed my stay

Great location, nice building and well priced. But if you don't have an air-conditioned room, you have to open your window or you'll suffocate. Problem is they don't have any screens or mosquito nets, so you get eaten alive. Breakfast is over-priced for what you get.
