The final judgment is positive but the kitchen needs to rethink.
Åkerblads is a fantastic establishment with history, a wonderful spa, and a fantastic breakfast.
What was a disappointment, however, was the kitchen which showed several flaws.
Complicated menu with overpriced dishes and small portions.
No shadow over the service, which was very pleasant and accommodating.
The kitchen needs a clear knowledge boost.

Excellent hotel and restaurant
Great three night stay. Room 18 was comfortable and had plenty of space. Really enjoyed the balcony. Bed was very comfortable. Ate dinner in the hotel restaurant three nights in a row. Great service from Benjamin, wonderful food. The beef tartare appetizer is outstanding. Also had the breakfast buffet three mornings and was pleased every time. Went to the outdoor pool and indoor hot tub every day. Great atmosphere and very relaxing. Nice workout room. Although I didn’t use them, both hotel parking lots have electric car chargers. I highly recommend Akerblads.

Charming accommodation for big and small (and dogs)
Very cozy atmosphere, with many different rooms and seating areas. We have been here at Christmas for a few years, winter, cold and dark, lit fireplaces and an abundance of string lights and Christmas decorations, so the cozy factor was at its peak. Same thing with the food last time, we were very satisfied, it was innovative and we ate dinner both downstairs in the wine cellar and upstairs in the large restaurant.
So we decided to come back and try this in the middle of the summer with the whole family, i.e. 6 adults + 1 child + 2 dogs. Several nights that cost us as much as a short trip abroad...
For some of us, the spa and the warm outdoor pool with a pool bar (!) was the big experience. This whole part is modern and fresh, clean, nice, and interacts well with the older part. We were also very satisfied with the massage part including the staff.
For others in the family, it was the garden, the cozy patios, and all the activities that were important. There is a tennis court, ping pong, billiards, and outdoor games such as kubb. Dog-friendly.
Big good breakfast and now in the summer we discovered many different seating areas both indoors and outdoors, both on the front and back. Nice!
But, dinner was unfortunately not as it had been, it didn't hold the same quality as last time, we were disappointed. The food was completely simple, boring, and tasteless. The only good thing about the dinner was the English-speaking waiter, he was very nice and service-minded. We therefore cancelled the rest of the evenings and went up to Tällbergsgården whose food is of much higher quality. Same owner, so we didn't abandon Åkerblads completely...
The family stayed in 2 single rooms and 2 suites of varying quality and size, where in room 34 (the hundred suite) they did not take care of small details such as squeaky curtains, a running toilet, and the non-existent water pressure in the shower which makes it impossible to wash hair. It was the same small flaws as last time in these dog-friendly rooms and are probably parts of the building/room that haven't been renovated in a while, the floors are very worn, like the bathroom. Suite 85 in another building was a completely different experience, new and fresh with a super lovely bathroom.
Another small thing is that the sauna handle in the women's changing room in the spa area is a big burn risk. Normally, you have wooden handles just because of the bark cover, and if you want steel, you must ensure that guests do not get burned, read others' complaints about this... And very surprised that there was no tennis ball when you want to play tennis? There was a very long wait in the reception while 2-3 staff members ran around, but no one could even find 1 tennis ball, sigh. The billiard table wobbles and needs to be screwed in so it doesn't tip over (we fixed this sporadically when we played 3 nights in a row, but guests shouldn't have to do this).
ALL THESE ARE SMALL DETAILS THAT ARE BOTH RELATIVELY EASY AND CHEAP TO FIX, but make a guest a little annoyed and not give you the TOP RATING you could have gotten!
Owners/staff should maybe stay one night at the hotel as regular guests? Then one would notice, for example, that you can burn yourself on the handle in the sauna and that it is difficult to play tennis without a ball... Or wonder why the water pressure is high in the sink, while the shower barely runs - this should also be discovered by the cleaning staff when they clean the shower, don't you think? And taught the bar staff that Spritz is "spritz" and not Sprite or flat prosecco... (complained and got a new one with the answer that they did their best and don't really know how to do it, it happened two nights in a row...).
The hotel seemed to be fully booked when we were there and most of the staff were friendly. Unfortunately, we didn't really get value for money regarding the above minor irritations and also didn't feel that the staff at the reception had the knowledge or commitment required to either change or help, so we gave up.

Disappointed at lunch
Have been a desirable guest for many years, but this time really squeamish. The lousy lunch has no cover for the price they charge. There will be no more lunch there unfortunately for the environment is giant gin

Beautiful setting, good food and lovely staff but the room was in desperate need of a refurbishment - the tiny shower with a slinky curtain and a cage bin attached to the wall made it feel like Falu hospital rather than a hotel! Our stay was fine but crazy overpriced.
