Beautiful Rural Hideaway
My husband and I stayed with our 4 year old daughter for 2 nights. It was idyllic.
I had read in the guide book of a beautiful beach at a nature reserve called Sandhammeran and so wanted to find somewhere to stay close by. It took a bit of finding as August seems to be a busy month for visitors to southern Sweden but I found Onkel Enkel's Pensionat.
Run by Caroline and her family, we were made to feel very welcome. The main house has 4 rooms upstairs, 2 double and 2 family. We stayed in the family room with the bunk beds as our daughter is mad about them. Each room is tastfully decorated and lots of thought has been put in. Curtains on the kids beds and blackout blinds make for a great sleep for children and adults alike. There were two decent sized shared bathrooms but we were the only guests in the main house for our stay and so didnt actually have to share.
Caroiline made us feel like it was our home and so our daughter had lots more freedom that she would at a hotel. It felt safe and secure and so she could roam inside or out without us having to constanty watch her.
Downstairs there is a dining room with lots of chilkdren's toys, as Caroline has a 5 year old daughter, There is also an outside terrace and large garden. The garden had a chair swing and huge sand pit. It was full of wild flowers and birds. The area was very quiet with little road noise but you are in a farming community so expect some interesting smells!
Caroline also offers evening meals as an extra. On our second night more guests arrived to stay in the garden cottage and so Caroline did an evening meal. My husband is vegetarian and my daughter can be quite fussy and so she made us a superb dish with sundried tomtaoes, feta cheese and chicken/quorn, brown rice, garden salad and homemade bread. Dessert was ice cream with homemade fruit compote and granola. She did crudites for our daughter as a snack starter. The food was one our best on our trip.
Breakfast was of a similar standard, homemade bran scones, cold meats, cheese, yoghurt, fruit, tea and coffee - all was delicious.
The closest town is Tomelilla which was a 10 min drive away. There was a Lidl and a ICA supermarket. Although familiar with the Lidl brand from the UK we preferred ICA as the choice was much more varied.
We spent one of our days at Sandhammaren which is just stunning, The beach was almost empty, powdery white sand and blue sea. The sea was cold but we had wetsuits making it easier to handle. There was a small cafe there for drinks but we stocked up on picnic food at ICA before heading there which worked very well. You have to be careful of the strong currents in the sea here too.
All in all I would recommend this guest house and would happily stay again.

Nice rooms, good food and great hospitality
We've stayed at Onkel Enkels Pensionat twice and think it's a great place. The rooms are very nice and well decorated, and the host, Caroline, is very friendly and welcoming. Join the common dinner in the evening and get not just good, local food, but also a great experience meeting other travelers from different countries. Really a great, calm place to stay. Only drawback is that there's not much of interest in the area (the nearby amusement park, Tosselilla, is really horrible for instance). But Ystad is close, and that's a nice destination, when the weather is good enough for beaches and swimming.

Lovely cute place with smiling face
It was a sunny afternoon when we arrived. This place was like from storybook, warm and welcoming with lovely garden.
Rooms were lovely and clean. We had great dinner there and enjoyed the warm summer evening in the porch. The lady who was running the place was heart of the place.

Amazing hospitality
We stayed for only one night but the food and hospitality were second to none
we enjoyed a really well cooked meal of salmon and plum pie which had come from the garden. We were treated like friends and the rooms were clean and generous in size.
The only slight problem was our room had a shared bathroom.

Cosy accommodation in a welcoming environment
We stayed for 3 nights at Onkel Enkels guesthouse, which was a real find. We booked the double room with bathroom, which was very comfortable and spotlessly clean. Caroline is a great host (and a very good cook) who makes her guests feel really welcome. Breakfast was very good and we loved the dinners eating at a communal table with the other guests of various nationalities, who varied from couples like us to families. This is a fantastic place for children, who can play happily with the other children whilst their parents finish dinner in peace. We had only booked dinner for the first 2 nights, but enjoyed it so much that we ate there the third night as well! Thank you for a wonderfully relaxing stay.
