Do not be put off by the location on a map - it's very deceiving - Brunnen is small!

Stefan was the perfect host when we stayed with him in July 2008. We arrived by train and he picked us up in his 1970's VW Beetle which was a nice touch. The car reflected the hotel - perfect condition with a lot of care and attention.
Our room was very clean and spacious and breakfast was superb. Stefan makes his own jams and marmalades which are the best I have ever tasted, unbelievable! Unfortunately they take him so long to make I could not buy any, otherwise there would be none for other guests! Stefan is a very honest and intelligent man and made us feel very welcome. He is not afraid to get in to deep conversations about anything, including politics and his beautiful country.
Perhaps the biggest surprise of all was the location. When looking at a map you might be put off by Alpina's location compared to others, but it is such a tiny place it takes no more than 3 minutes walk to get to the harbour and lakes. We could not believe how near we were when we arrived. We expected to be much further away and were very happy with the location.
Some months later, Stefan wrote us a letter by hand personally addressed to us to ask how we were and to remind us that we were always welcome. Not pushy, just nice. Perfect!

Loved the Alpina for a taste of small town Switzerland hospitality

Not fancy, not on the water - So if that is important than look at the larger more expensive hotels available. This small, family run B&B is charming, VERY clean, and quiet. The views of the alps and charming neighborhood are lovely. We walked everywhere from our hotel and found small bakeries, wonderful restaurants (The Rosagarten was delicious). The owner/manager works hard to assure your stay is perfect, helping however he can to accomate your wishes. Stéphane Geisseler and family decoration-style is minimalist... all natural. At breakfast Stephane offers dozens of seeds if you want to top off your yogurt, honey, dozens of homemade jams and jellys, (such as dandelion jelly), along with cheeses, meats, wonderful breads and coffee how you like it (espreso, half hot milk-half coffee, coffee with cream, etc). The rooms offer minimale furniture, although very nice, and clean clean clean. There is a microwave, cups etc if you want to bring home goodies to enjoy in the room. Stephane will keep items cold for you - if you have leftovers you want to enjoy at another time as well. Lots of hikers stay here, and everyone is friendly! Stephane has a garden that is absolutely wonderful.... like a little park all for you to enjoy. Plants, flowers and nature are all very important to Stephane - there for you to relax and enjoy his hard work.
I think you will like it, especially if it is not your first time in Brunnen. It is our third time in Brunnen. We stayed right on the water before, and that too was wonderful and yet, now we will always go back to the Alpina ... because it feels more like home.

Liebenswert, persönlich, locker

Die Besitzer sind äußerst freundlich, hilfsbereit und gut gelaunte Gastgeber, denen Gastlichkeit ein wirklich Anliegen ist. Sehr schöne Räume, ein wunderbares Frühstück und die großzügigen Appartments rund den sehr guten Eindruck ab. Auch ist es für die Schweiz recht preiswert. Leider liegt das Hotel nicht direkt am Vierwaldtstätter See, aber es sind nur wenige Gehminuten. Tolle Ausflüge in der Region schlägt der Chef gerne vor.
