Lovely Stay, Attentive Staff, Amazing Views

We had a wonderful one-night stay at this hotel and were very pleasantly surprised.
We were a little concerned after reading some critical reviews. However, our experience was excellent, and it felt like the hotel may now be under new management. The manager was very hands-on, and all staff were attentive and quick to help.
Our room had a mountain view with a Japanese theme. The view was breathtaking. The bed was huge and very comfortable. The large plunge bath and powerful wet room shower made the stay even better.
The hotel mainly caters to local guests, but the team made a real effort to meet our Western preferences. Our rate included a buffet dinner, which was plentiful and tasty. Most dishes were Chinese, but there was enough choice for us to enjoy a satisfying meal, along with a good coffee. Beer was also available on request.
Breakfast was similar, with enough options to suit our tastes.
Make sure you check the sunrise time and set an alarm. The view over the lake is truly stunning and worth the early start.
If earlier reviews were accurate, this hotel has made a strong and impressive improvement.

No laundry service, no swimming pool. But with very friendly and helpful staff, shuttle bus service, arcade, entertainment room, and free bicycles. The breakfast buffet is excellent with a lot of options.

Definitely will not stay here again!!! Many other better hotels in better locations

It was a bad experience for the service we got from this hotel. Let's start from.the ok things we had. They have this shuttle car to fetch us from the bus station at main drop off point at sun moon lake. The room is spacious n with great bathroom n tub. Conceige staffs are good. So much better than the manager(or supervisor) n front desk staffs. That's all.
Stayed in many hotels n this is the hotel that have the worst front desk staffs. When we reached, the hotel was quiet.as.later.then we know is the non peak season. We went to the front desk to check in, the front desk guy saw us, no smile, no welcoming face, received us with a black face. Then we were.early so could not check in, so we put our luggages there n intended to go n find food. Tomour surprise the lake area in front of the hotel was dried. Then we had to walk from the back door of the hotel to a path that has to walk very long distance to the nearest place that have shops and eateries. When we asked the conceige.can we go thru the front door n find something to eat nearby the hotel, he smile smile and said.better go by back door n hint us nearby nothing. And the weather was so hot.
Finally back from the "nearest" eateries to hotel for check in. Front desk gave us a room on low floor, we asked the staff can we have higher floor as what we request in our booking. There was this wearing coat staff(maybe manager) turned his head to us while the front desk guy trying to search for room, he said no more high floor rooms as there was a group of tourist occupying the higher floor. But throughout the stay, the hotel was very empty. It is obvious he just anyhow entertained us with a stupid reason..and the way he answered n attitude was so bad without a smile n not welcoming. When we check out, no thank you, no smile, nothing that made you felt welcoming or made you felt.like.a.guest, in.fact.made you felt like owing them money. Totally no service standard at all.
But really have to praised the conceige staffs, deserve the compliments from us.
So if anyone who wants to stay in sun moon lake, better choose other hotels with better location and service standard. Especially those with old people travelling together, this place is really a bad choice. It was our first day in Taiwan n it was such a disappointment to get this kind of service n attitude. Never will go back again! We regretted being mislead by the beautiful picture on the websites. Try choosing other location as there are many hotels in convenient places that are near night market n shops n eateries. This hotel location is equally as bad as the service of the front desk staffs of this hotel. Don't waste money staying there, we were so regretted.

The hotel photo lied. Didn’t expect to see dry lake bed as we booked a lake view room

The primary draw here is the proximity to the water, but "lake view" is currently a generous term. The lake has receded significantly during our visit. In the immediate foreground—where you’d expect sparkling blue water—there is mostly a vast expanse of dry, cracked lakebed and tall grasses. While you can still see the water shimmering in the distance, it felt more like looking across a meadow toward a pond than staying on a true waterfront.

We like this hotel, our second stay. Very comfortable, lovely staff and a decent breakfast buffet. The added convenience of having bikes available to ride around the lake is a plus.
