Generally good
In my opinion it was slightly pricey, but probably understandable for the location.

Unsatisfactory cleanliness and maintenance. Disgusting response from management.
Upon checking into the room, I noticed a small puddle of water of the floor next to the sink, I called the front desk and requested for a room change immediately. They arranged for another room on the same floor for me, after I entered it, I also found a puddle of water on the floor at the same spot. So I called the front desk again to request for another room change, stating the same issue still persisted in a different room. The front desk team member tried to explain by saying the puddles of water were results of the daily disinfection that were performed in the guest rooms. A explanation that I later rejected, questioning the highly localized nature of the puddle of water, and the reason for wetting the floor but not drying it afterwards, or consider wiping or mopping. They moved me to a third room, although without the puddle of water this time, the lamp cover was full of dark spots, that resembled excrements of bed bugs. The surface of the table below the TV was also visibly worn out. I called to raise concern, again, and at that point it was already 40 minutes after I checked in. I just want to unpack and settle in, so I requested for a room that I was moved to previously. The whole room move process was done without staff presence, and I was alone, going to the different rooms by myself.
Upon closer inspection, I found scratches at the bottom of the sink, brown color stains at the bottom of the wall, a ceiling lamp covered in dust, and a glass panel in the wardrobe which was also dusty. I reported the cleanliness issues of the ceiling lamp and the glass panel in the wardrobe to the front desk, and requested them to arrange for targeted cleaning by the housekeeping team the next day. The amount of dust on the ceiling lamp did not appear in a day or two, it had to have been left untouched for months for it to accumulate that much dust. All of these contributed to the poor cleanliness and maintenance of the room that were systemic.
An iPad was set up in the room that allows one to control most things in the room, the TV, the lighting, the air conditioning, the blinds and curtains, you name it. It may seem like an interesting idea, but in reality, one would have to wait for at least 10 seconds for the iPad to launch every time they wish to control some parts of the room. It was a frustrating experience.
Something also has to be said for the service lapse at the hotel. One evening, I was holding a newly-purchased 30-inch suitcase with a single hand from the North Gate MRT station. I entered through the main entrance, there was a gentleman checking himself in with one of the self service Kiosks. There were two staff members present, no one bothered to offer assistance to the clearly distressed me with the large suitcase, and I had to squeeze through the narrow passageway between the gentleman and the wall, when the two staff members did not even bother to alert the gentleman to my presence.
Moving on to the amenities. They provided two bottles of shampoo/ shower gel mix in the room, labeled AM and PM. I commented on the practicality of the shampoo/ shower gel mix, suggesting the hotel provide a bottle of each instead. There was no toothbrush, toothpaste, or comb provided in the room because of a law in Taiwan prohibiting hotels from doing so, which sounded fair, I had brought my own tooth set anyway. Though I did comment of this not being mentioned on Marriott Bonvoy’s website or app, suggesting the property could utilize the “Hotel message” column to display crucial information such as this, instead of a playful message that reads “Our rooms are cleverly compact, so there’s no space for rollaway beds or cribs (we tried, the bed won). Thanks for understanding!” Strangely enough, there was no cups provided in the room. I am not really used to putting my mouth right under the tap, and I was directed to obtain a cup from the bar/ canteen on the 2/F myself. These definitely contributed to a substandard stay on a functional level.
I shared my observations and feedbacks with a manager on duty at the property via a phone call. The manager apologized for the multiple oversights previously mentioned, claiming that corrective actions will be taken, while also explaining that some issues I raised were part of the brand standard, and could not easily be changed, namely, the AM/ PM shampoo/ shower gel mix, the lack of cups in the room, and the spotty iPad. I expressed my understanding, while also citing the importance of guest comfort, that even with brand standard in mind, not all properties within the same brand under Marriott Bonvoy’s portfolio would fully conform to the brand standard, and properties should be allowed a certain degree of flexibility, especially when it comes to localization and guest comfort. I gave an example of The Ritz-Carlton, Nekajii, that does not use the signature Diptyque brand of amenities. The manager on duty expressed understanding, and stated that she would record and reflect my opinion to senior management. At the end of the call, I requested compensation for the various cleanliness and maintenance issues, the service lapse, and the overall discomfort and user unfriendliness at the hotel. The manager requested to get back to me at a later time, which I accepted.
Now on the most digesting part of this stay. I received a written reply from the hotel management the evening of my departure. The reply was of a completely different stance to my phone call with the manager on duty earlier. It was defensive, dismissive, and they even tried to call me for subjecting them to a standard that is too high, calling me out on my Ritz-Carlton comparison. Basically, it was a big “screw you” in the face. I replied by stating my utmost dissatisfaction towards them twisting my words with the Ritz-Carlton comparison, when I was merely trying to point out the flexibility that exists within the concept of brand standards, and I had already managed my expectations prior to my arrival. This reply by the management, strengthened my case that there are systemic and persistent issues, with multiple aspects at this property, not just isolated incidents.
There are vastly better options at a similar price point in the area.

Not safe, property got stolen
They took the advantage of me being a foreigner and had to leave Taiwan the same day, so I could not call the police.
