This huge private estate has an historical building at its centre. Broome Park is a relaxing resort with modern log cabins, fine dining, indoor golf. Broome Park Golf and Country Club is in Barham, near Canterbury.

Quirk by the ton and beautiful setting!
This hotel has a truly amazing setting and some beautiful rooms. For a short break or as a stopover it is well worth considering. However, it is an old building with accompanying quirks. Unless you consider mountaineering a hobby there are no lifts. If you have mobility issues or you have a young family you may want to book a lodge. If there is a wedding event the dining room can be slow.

Faded Grandeur
The outside of the hotel is amazing, as is the inside. It has a deep history with Kitchener, not that he ever stayed there. We checked in the night before a 2 week cruise the next day, so had 4 large and somewhat heavy suitcases. We asked could we leave 3 in storage, to be told we do not store cases. They we were given the code to our suite Kitchener, on the first floor and then up another small set of additional stairs. I am 66 my partner who has a bad bak is 70 and no offer of help was made so I, struggled with each case up the stairs. Sadly for us this ruined our experience of the hotel which was a shame as it would only have taken one of the fitter team of men around the hotel to assist us
We booked the Kitchener Suite. very spacious, very bright, clean, nice size bathroom, with separate shower and bath.
There must have been a graduation ceremony on that evening as the Marque was all dressed, as were the guests in their finest.
The bar service was friendly, especially Jo, she worked like a Trojan, and with Emily looking after us in the restaurant.
Checkout the next morning was uninspiring. Again not help with luggage, even from inside the hotel to the taxi, waiting to take us to the cruise terminal, we actually paid the drive of the taxi for helping us.
The hotel is obviously used as a wedding, celebration venue, so for us one night was enough.
Could be a stunning property with an injection of funds, better management and training. Sadly faded grandeur coms to mind.

We are, however, sorry to learn that your arrival and departure left you feeling disappointed. We appreciate that travelling with four large suitcases before a two-week cruise can be demanding.
We would like to clarify that Broome Park does not operate a concierge or porter service. Whilst our reception team will always assist with luggage where they are able to do so, this is at the discretion of the individual team member and must be balanced against health and safety considerations. On the day of your arrival, you mentioned you had four large, heavy suitcases. If these proved difficult for you to carry, it is understandable that the female receptionist who checked you in may also have been unable to lift them safely. We have a duty of care to ensure our staff do not place themselves at risk of injury, and we hope you can appreciate the position this can sometimes place them in.
Regarding luggage storage, we are unfortunately unable to store large suitcases for extended periods while guests are away due to our limited secure storage space and operational constraints.
We appreciate your comments regarding the overall condition of the property. As a historic Grade I listed building, maintaining and enhancing the estate is an ongoing process, and we continue to invest in improvements while preserving its unique heritage.

NOT A 4 Star - service, and cleanliness matter
I wouldn't return unless there's a complete staffing and training overhaul, as the hotel clearly doesn't care about guest experience. Staff were mostly indifferent or indignant, though two members did seem to care.
Check-in was poor. At 3:00 PM (official check-in time), a sign said reception would return shortly. We waited over 10 minutes. Then we waited for a bellman and I had to help load my bags onto the golf cart. At the cottage, the bellman dropped the bags outside and said "you've got it from here," refusing to carry them up to the 2nd floor room. I had to help him again.
The room itself was beautiful, spacious, with a nice countryside view and comfortable bed. However, there was a large, obvious blood stain on the duvet cover, plus other fresh unidentified stains. The sheets weren't tucked in, and there were cobwebs everywhere. In the bathroom, there was a large, bizarre stain on the towel that could have been blood.
The cottage has no phone, only WhatsApp for contact, but never responded. I emailed with photos of the issues and received a reply 12 hours later. They apologized and said they'd clean immediately, but later insisted cleaning follows a set schedule/structure.
I reported the problems at 5:00 PM Thursday. The next morning I followed up, but they again cited the structure. When I returned around 1:00 PM, the blood stain was gone and sheets had been changed (though they smelled musty). The stained towel remained, and none of the cobwebs were removed.
The bar has a cool atmosphere, nice drinks at fair prices, and one friendly, caring staff member. However, on Saturday it was unstaffed for 20-30 minutes at a time, and staff seemed annoyed when you had to track them down.
Breakfast was mostly terrible, except for the excellent hash browns and very good honey. The espresso drinks were bad.
Checkout was another ordeal trying to get our bags to the main house via ignored WhatsApp message. Had to walk around to find someone.
The pool area smelled horrible, and the locker room was worse.
Overall, very disappointing for a claimed 4-star property. It would have potential under professional management. Right now, it's an embarament.

Wonderful night away at a beautiful venue!
Fabulous stay, beautiful venue. The staff at Broome Park are always amazing - friendly and professional. We absolutely loved our room and enjoyed our dinner in the Peacock Restaurant.

Booked Broome Park for my wedding and reserved their honeymoon suite over a year in advance. Less than 24 hours before my wedding, and just 2 hours before check-in, I was told the room was no longer available due to an internal error.
This wasn't just a room, it was a key part of our wedding experience that had been promised and confirmed over a year earlier. The distress and disappointment caused at such an important time was immense.
Broome Park admitted the mistake was entirely their fault, but the whole experience left me questioning the competence of the management and booking teams. I simply cannot understand how a honeymoon suite booked over a year in advance could be given away and not discovered until the last minute.
I will never return to Broome Park and would strongly advise anyone considering it for a wedding or special occasion to think carefully before trusting them with such an important event.
