Stunning Cotswold retreat, no AC
Fantastic pub and the food and service cannot be faulted. The beds are very comfortable and the hotel rooms are very clean. The only that they do not have air-conditioning, a Dyson fan is offered in the cupboard however this makes no difference. For this to be a fivestar hotel asking for the prices that it is, air-conditioning must be invested for it to reach the status that claims to have. A bit of tourist trap during the day however the staff handle it very well and in the evening it does die down.

Location is great.
After staying in the Lygon Arms many times over the years we decided to try other options in Broadway (Russells, Broadway Hotel). Our reason for doing this was the significant decline in standards associated with the level of services provided. In particular, food service (regardless of restaurant or sitting) had become so poor that other less acclaimed venues in Broadway offered better quality, value, and staff professionalism. When we returned a couple of weeks ago, we hoped things would have improved but they haven't. It still takes ages to place an order and then to receive drinks/foods. We were sat in the bar and witnessed the apathy of many staff members, with the exception of a manager who had to prepare drinks because the sole barman couldn't keep up with orders due to having to make cocktails. It was very apparent that they need key professional members of staff to keep other staff focused and productive. All too often waiting staff have to be asked by customers to take an order and then have to be asked again to chase up the order. We witnessed waiting staff actively avoiding going into busy areas and instead just hanging around the bar. What stands out at the Lygon Arms is the total absence of managerial leadership. While there were a few members of staff walking around who may have been more senior, they were not doing anything to make the service more effective and just appeared to be walking about. It is impossible to identify any person who is in charge. Junior members of staff also appear not to take pride in their place of work, walking past people who are waiting to be served and not intuitively clearing empty plates and glasses. On a positive note, the room we had in the courtyard was of a good standard but will need updating soon as the decor and bathrooms are now dated. Overall, the experience for us was okay as we only use the hotel for it's great location. We've learned not to rely on it for lunch or dinner, as the service ruins the experience. Even breakfast service is generally tricky, waiting for food to be served, which isn't always of the standard you would expect for the price charged. Staff also have to be asked repeatedly to bring tea, condiments, clear tables. I'd recommend the hotel for its location but find other venues for food and drinks (there are a few).

Beautiful location - Disappointing food.
Went for lunch this afternoon. The outside space was beautiful, especially as the sun was out. Ordered a few bits from the menu for the table. This included the summer salad, olives and cheese board and one person had the fish and chips to themselves. I can honestly say it was the blandest food I have tasted. The over priced salad with a citrus dressing tasted of nothing. No citrus or taste in sight. Even the radishes were tasteless. The olives, dry and tasteless. The cheese board was presented beautifully but nothing stood out from there taste wise. All muted and I hate to say again but bland. The most taste came from the accompanying apples and bit of jelly. The Fish and chips were reported to be just okay. With the name associated with this hotel and restaurant and the cost (£154 - this includes drinks ) and location I was very disappointed.
Disappointed enough to write my first ever review - unfortunately the friends i was with do not like to complain and just paid the bill and left.

Disappointed by poor service.
We went to the Lygon Arms tavern by James Martin. The room we sat in was lovely.
Initially the service was good but after eating our main meal, it ended up that it took a while for the dishes to be collected. We asked for a dessert menu which took a while to arrive, we chose what we wanted but no one came to take our order. In the end we just left. So disappointed as we expected far more from this establishment as it is endorsed by James Martin.

Awful hotel
We have just checked out after an awful stay. First night the toliet broke and was making the loudest noise throughout the night. Told reception in the morning and was asked “why didn’t we tell them earlier” what at 2am? Came back from our day out and was still waiting for a glass of wine in the courtyard 35 mins after sitting down. Do you think this acceptable?? Staff are shocking and they really need to have some in the art of hospitality. Last morning in our room the drain of the sink and shower were not draining. Lounge and furniture is covered in dust. Do you really think this is the standard of a 4 star hotel??? I don’t!
