Poor
The breakfast was particularly disappointing. The hollandaise sauce was missing from the eggs royale, poached egg was overcooked, the toast was dry, and the smoked salmon had clearly dried out. On the cooked breakfast, the scrambled eggs were overcooked and lacked any creaminess, the black pudding appeared to have been deep-fried until it was hard and crispy, the tomato was undercooked, the mushroom was slimy, and the bacon was both very fatty and dried out. Looking at the plate, it simply wasn’t the quality you would expect from a luxury country house hotel.
The accommodation also needs attention. The room felt tired and dated, with obvious signs of wear. There were excessive numbers of flies in the room throughout our stay, making it uncomfortable, and housekeeping didn’t service the room until around 3pm, meaning we couldn’t properly relax in the afternoon.
The pricing was another major disappointment. A large glass of white wine cost £19.95, which is incredibly difficult to justify, and a pint of Peroni was over £7. I understand paying premium prices for exceptional wines or craft beers, but these were standard drinks that didn’t warrant such high prices. If you’re charging luxury prices, the overall experience needs to match.
One final point that left a poor impression was the atmosphere created by the management. During our visit, I overheard the current manager making negative comments about the previous management team, saying they had “run the hotel into the ground.” Whether changes were needed or not, I found those remarks unprofessional. Guests should be hearing about the hotel’s vision and improvements, not criticism of former colleagues.
I was also witness to the manager raising his voice at two female members of staff working in the restaurant and communal areas. Regardless of the circumstances, this was uncomfortable to witness as a guest and didn’t reflect the level of professionalism or leadership I’d expect in a hotel positioning itself as a luxury destination.
Llangoed Hall is undeniably a beautiful building in stunning surroundings, and it has enormous potential. However, beautiful surroundings alone don’t make a luxury hotel. At these prices, guests should expect excellent food, well-maintained accommodation, professional service, respectful leadership and value for money. Sadly, this stay didn’t deliver on those expectations, and I left feeling disappointed rather than eager to return.

There is simply no excuse for the standard of breakfast you were served during your stay. I have no clue why it was served by the kitchen but will investigate this with my Head Chef.
Regarding our prices, these are very much in line with similar establishments in the local area and probably nationally. Llangoed is an incredibly expensive hotel to run given it's age, size, grounds etc. We simply can't charge the same price as the local pub or we would be closed very quickly.
I am baffled by your comments suggesting previous management had 'run the hotel into the ground'. I personally don't think I have ever used those words but agree any sort of conversation like that should not be heard in the public domain whether true or not. Again, if you were referring to me raising my voice to my staff, I would agree that would have been unprofessional. Not something I'm known for, but apologise to you and to them if it was me.
I wholeheartedly agree with you, Llangoed Hall is a beautiful building and it is an honour managing it. We have come along way fairly quickly in trying to return it to its former glory. Clearly, we have a way to go. My apologies are sincere.
Thank you again for your feedback.
Kind regards,
Adrian Wilson

Won’t stay again but lovely building
We had a bad experience- well horrific Infact.
Checked in - dropped bags off and went downstairs for dinner and drinks.Dinner was okay - nothing special considering venue. I would say overpriced for what it was but acceptable . Stayed up till 1130 then went upstairs. The room was swarming with flies . Ceilings , windowsills, bath and sink, bed and even the clothes in my case that I had left open. I rang down to reception - no answer. I went downstairs and rung bell still no answer. I eventually found someone - no manager on site in the evening. They said they would swap us rooms ( by which time was midnight ) I asked if they wanted to see it and they said no need as known problem. The second room also had black dots all over bathroom ceiling but they said it’s okay as those flies were already dead. By the time they swapped bedding and remade bed in second room it was almost 2am ! I barely slept . We also noticed in that room there was blood on the wall and many dead flies under radiator only visible when sat at the table also large cobwebs on curtains. The manager agreed to refund the price of room although we had spent 250 pound also on food and drink. This standard is not acceptable for a 300 pound per night room . The worst part was another member of staff decided to rudely confront us - stating the room WAS clean prior to our arrival ?! It clearly was not unless all this with the flies happened whilst we were downstairs - the second room with dead flies on ceiling were present and pointed out the staff as we entered room, the blood on wall and dead flies under radiator was not noticed by us until the morning but that room also was not clean. Very dissapointed !
Also our friends who were also staying at hotel were charged 20 pound for one glass of wine ! This establishment is definitely not the Ritz ! We would not stay again and we would not recommend for a restful sleep. We may have been unlucky but one would not expect this sort of thing at a hotel of this alleged standards and prices.

Sunshine break
A fabulous hotel, helpful staff although somewhat sporadic and lacking in experience I would suggest or that’s how it came across.
Food was disappointing and distinctly average. An example at breakfast my wife’s poached egg was like an hard boiled egg, my bacon egg and mushroom came as an egg on toast but no bacon….
We were told by the very willing manager the hotel had been run into the ground but was now on the way back, I do hope so because it really is living on days gone by.
Fabulous bedroom known as Ashley but dated bathroom . . .
Easy to be critical so I won’t be as I think the things that were noticeable to me must surely be seen by the new manager.
We shall return in a year or two , if only out of nostalgia and to see if it has returned to its days of former glory, and hopefully employed a new chef.
