Cozy and Charming

Our room was cozy and perfect sized for two people. The view from the windows gorgeous! Staff and service friendly and flawless. Don't miss out on dessert if you go, the cheese and sticky toffee pudding absolutely delicious.

New ownership

Hospitality excellent , I had the gammon it was lovely , unfortunately my partner had pork loin , it arrived with eight thumb size.bits of pork and fat , not a pork loin piece more like belly pork , very disappointing As partner still hungry , had sticky toffee pud, not too bad ...I have bread and butter pudding , was mushy and bitter like the scrapping left ..Tbh I would not of served it ...I did not want to say anything at the time as there was customers about .However I felt I must inform them as they are under new ownership and I would like to see them.do well ...So felt obliged to leave some constructive criticism.To be mindful for future.

Really not a very nice breakfast.
Dinner was only ok, the chicken burger was mushed chicken not a crispy breast or thigh
Service more efficient than warm.
Rooms functional. We were a bit disappointed as they were very nice when we were booking.

That said, during your dinner, you mentioned to our team that you were very happy with both the food and the service, so we’re a little surprised by the contrast in your review — but we do take all feedback seriously.
Regarding the food, particularly the chicken burger, I’ve passed your comments along to our kitchen team for review. We appreciate constructive input that helps us improve.
We also want to note that we kept the kitchen open later than usual to accommodate your late arrival and arranged two single rooms for you at no extra charge so you wouldn’t have to share — something we were more than happy to do to make your stay more comfortable.
As for the rooms, we’re sorry they didn’t meet your expectations based on the booking experience. We aim for transparency and consistency in how we present them online.

A pleasant 4 night stay

A very friendly staff made this an enjoyable 4 night stay for our motorcycle group of 4. The rooms were generally good although 2 of our group found the bed a bit firm. The wi-fi extender wasn’t working in the room area which was unhelpful but not a major issue. Some of the figments in the room needed attention, the shower wouldn’t drain properly in 1 room and the blind was hanging of the ceiling but still worked so just needed a bit of attention. The food was of a high standard and the prices were a bit high but plenty of food so no-one went hungry. I would certainly be happy to stay there again if in the area.

Almost Perfection

We arrived to this beautiful area in not the best of weather. However the welcome we got was friendly and warm. Our room wasn't the biggest but it was light and airy and had everything in t we needed - though perhaps the TV could have been bigger. Plenty of sockets and light. The bathroom was perfect and we had a lovely view of the trees and river from there. Lovely fluffy towels and the best shower we have had in a hotel for a long time. We ate evening meals both nights of our stay and they were faultless. Lots of choice and every mouthful was perfection. Do not miss the Panna cotta. Recommended by the lovely waitress and she wasn't wrong. If you like the sound of the deserts don't have a starter, The portions are generous. We were so full both nights! Well done the chef! He is a treasure that's for sure. Breakfasts were good and filling and obviously use local ingredients. The Inn is perfectly located for getting to Hadrians Wall and Vindolanda. Some of the roads to these are challenging but the scenery makes up for this. One weird observation - the wine glasses are amazing! They are beautiful and I want some!! Totally recommend The Elks Head. We loved it.
