De Vere Latimer is an exceptional hotel that perfectly blends historic elegance/history with modern comfort, offering an unforgettable stay from the moment we arrived.
Our room (Mansion)was spacious, impeccably clean, with comfortable beds.
The staff delivered a first class service.We love them all from polite and very efficient housekeeping to the waiting staff!

Don’t be misled by the exterior. Looks better than it is.
The exterior is gorgeous but sets you up to be deceived.
We stopped in the Waterhouse and although we were directed to where the Waterhouse building was locating the room itself was very difficult. The ground floor had meeting rooms and the signage for the rooms was very poorly displayed. Especially given the poor lighting on a night. The only way we were able to find our room, after a 20 minute search was the fact another guest had come from the corridor. I am currently 6 months pregnant and after a car journey of 4 hours having to spend 20 minutes to find the room was not ideal.
Once in the room we noticed there was lots of damp on an interior wall that should have been dealt with as this progressively got worse during our stay. This was also very concerning from a health and safety perspective as I am also asthmatic and have just recovered from a chest infection. I ended up spending most of the night coughing and struggling to catch my breath.
The general appearance of the room was rundown, there was chipped paint, there were black marks across the radiator which we didn’t know what they were, the seal in the shower was black with mould, the shower heads (both overhead and front facing where clearly partially blocked with limescale and needed a deep clean, there was no toilet roll holder and given that there was either no extractor or a very poorly maintained extractor the toilet roll became very damp which was then unpleasant when using. There were also no additional pillows in the room other than the one provided and a couple of cushions so if you sleep with more than one this posed a challenge. The room was also very muggy, which I appreciate was due to the weather, but we were only provided with a very small desk fan which rattled all night due to needing to be on and there was no blanket as an alternative to sleep under only the very thick winter style duvet. The other thing we noticed was also the hallways were very dirty and therefore were lots of cobwebs and stains. The place looked very rundown.
The toilet seat was not attached to the hinges and given that I am pregnant having to use the toilet in the night is inevitable however the toilet seat moving when sitting down was not expected and I nearly slipped off which would’ve meant a trip to hospital.
Breakfast the next morning was a very mixed bag. When we got to the restaurant we noted that there was a stand where staff were ticking off rooms so we went to this and the staff member didn’t seem to have a clue what we wanted when we said we had booked breakfast and told her our room number she just stared at us and didn’t seem to understand what we wanted. We had to ask multiple times about a table and when she told us to go find one this was difficult as a lot of the tables were empty but had dishes on that had clearly been left by previous guests.
The breakfast choice was good however there were a lot of items that were understocked or in need of a restock including drinks and when I asked the cook about the bacon being restocked he just shrugged. There was only one toaster for the bread which when speaking to another guest who has stopped at the other de vere properties seems like an issue as she advised other de vere properties have multiple toasters. The other guest also mentioned that her room had been booked with a balcony however the glass on this was shattered and therefore unusable.
When we raised the issues with the duty manager it took about 20 minutes for them to turn up, I wonder whether they did this to try get rid of us before we could complain. When we told her the issues there were a multitude of excuses.
* You are given a map of the site. Yes I accept a map locating the buildings is provided but not the individual rooms.
* if we were unsatisfied we should asked to move rooms at nearly 10:30 at night by asking reception but given the time and the fact of my pregnancy we challenged this and said the room should not have been provided but she just claimed it was our opinion. We are glad we took the photos.
* the damp was due to condensation from the window even though it was a completely different wall.
* they were already aware of the marks on the radiator and there was nothing they could do.
* the toilet seat wasn’t broken it was just off the hinges.
The conversation with Dorota, duty manager, seemed very dismissive and as if we were an inconvenience and when we mentioned we had booked through booking.com were told there was very little she could do but we would need to go directly through them.
Overall for what we paid for the stay it was definitely not value for money and we would not book again. This was meant to be a lovely baby moon but definitely put a dent in the trip away.

Terrible experience
Very poor experience , it was so disappointing considering the exterior of the hotel looks like something out of a countryside fairytale .
Reception guided us to the Waterhouse building , however didnt tell us where the actual rooms were , when you enter the Waterhouse building it’s full of corporate meeting rooms and no clear direction where the actual hotel rooms are, we spent ages trying to find with no actual luck(considering this was also late at night so it was pitch black ) ,luckily we saw someone come out of a corner door , and this is the only reason we found the hotel rooms , I’m annoyed the receptionist didn’t tell us clearly where the rooms were this couldve avoided 15/20 minutes of running round like headless chickens.
The room itself had loads of damp on the walls , and to make things even worse it looks like the damp was getting worse the next morning, this isn’t some criticism it’s an health and safety issue , considering my partner is pregnant and asthmatic, I’m angry the hotel allowed this to happen .
The bathroom is self was also very mouldy , clearly not properly maintained
The toilet seat also came off , which is inexcusable , if you need to sit down this can be dangerous, another health and safety violation.
We complained to the manager the next morning of all these problems , all we got was poor excuses, apparently the damp that was dripping down all near the walls that was nowhere near the window , was just some condensation from the window! , and wasn’t an issue ! , and the toilet seat wasn’t broke it was unhinged, and can easily be clipped back on this , this was a clear lie as you can clearly tell it’s damaged and needs replacing , and even though we explained about lack of directions to the rooms , she told us there is a map we can clearly Look at ( she wasn’t listening as the maps only show to the buildings not the room!).
No extra pillows provided in the room , so my neck was hurting the next day , no side light at the bed or lamp this is so annoying if one person wants to sleep
And other doesn’t.
The only saving grace of the hotel was the quality breakfast the next morning.
I’m afraid I wouldn’t stay here again and the hotel manager taking no accountability was the finals straw for me .

Wonderful stay in 4 deluxe double rooms for 8 of us. Bernadette helped so much before and during our stay. She is a wonderful assest to the hotel. All public areas are tasteful and wonderful to sit down in and relax. Food in restaurant was enjoyable. Not a massive menu choice at dinner but the food we had was delicious. Breakfast was also very good. Very nice range of food. Be wary if there is a party on when you stay, we had awful noise from drunk guests under our bedroom window, room 112. Choice language too. The noise from the bottom of the main stairs carried right up into our room too. We also had people knocking twice on our bedroom door, the last time being 3am. We ignored it, but it did make for an awful night's sleep. It was clear that the people who chose to be so inconsiderate of others were just clearly lacking in any form of manners or decorum. Apart from the awful nights sleep, we enjoyed our stay at Devere Latimer and would stay again, if the need arose.

Room was above the cellar and had to contact reception 3 times to ask them to be quiet, last one being at 22:30. Room was small and bathroom light did not work. Had an Dyson flow air unit which had no remote and sounded like a tank so could not have that on. overall very disappointing.
