Pros: A beautiful historical building, friendly welcome and loads of parking for a charge of £13 a night. Comfortable bed with good cotton linen and a great shower. In a very central location for restaurants, shops and numerous tourist attractions. We were catching an IOM ferry which was an easy 15 minutes away by car. Overall fairly priced too.
Cons. The website described at least 2 on-site restaurants, but there was only one serving a self service buffet, which we passed on. Glad we did, as breakfast was very disappointing. Plenty of choice, however the cooked part was all overcooked to the point of being burnt, particularly the sausage, black pudding and bacon. A shame as that was the lasting impression.

The room was not pleasant and the hallways was not pleasant. The ceiling had damage from some kind of water leakage or moisture. The windows were awful and thank god it was so warm I didn’t have to close it and didn’t have to touch the window. The whole corridor smelled of moist building. The location was quite noisy and busy with bars, not really nice, but close to stations and not far from city centre.

Our room was very comfortable and clean. It is just such a shame that this beautiful and iconic hotel has dropped their standards. The hotel was understaffed on reception and in the dining room. The general cleanliness was lacking.

To call this hotel a bit tired would be a compliment. Completely exhausted is more appropriate. Shabby, grubby and pokey rooms which for £130 a night is truly disappointing. The shower either burnt my skin off or caused hypothermia regardless of how carefully the dial was adjusted. There were virtually no basic equipment , not even a hairdryer which was really annoying when I was going to my daughters graduation. The room was also boiling hot and the rusty window only opened a fraction. The only positive is the location which was very central and next to Mount Pleasant car park which is reasonably priced.
