Fawlty Towers?
We found 2 lovely guests in the garden area, and when we asked if there were any staff members they said they too were disappointed as the bar closed early at 19:00 with no warning, and no food was being served at all which forced them to have to walk into town for their evening meal.
After continuously ringing the “emergency” number, somebody answered on the 5th attempt and abruptly said “someone will be there soon”. 5-10 minutes later, a man arrived in an car and asked “are you the late guests?” To which we calmly explained that we were not late according to the booking information. He claimed there was a fault or miscommunication, and provided a room.
Room was ok, quite dated and warm but the bed was comfy and it was clean. The WiFi was very weak, only 1 bar (room 11). Check out on booking.com says 10:30, but on website says 10:00.
Breakfast was not good, there was one waitress who seemed very stressed working alone and quite sad, the phone on reception kept ringing with nobody to answer it, and the coffee machine started screaming and frothing and overflowing yet she just walked over, stopped it, and walked off without removing the cup or offering to help/apologise.
The smashed avo and eggs was hard to stomach, and even upon check out a different member of staff had no key details or knowledge of our stay (I provided multiple receipts which were accepted). I liked the apple juice until it ran out.
To me it seemed like there was very little attention to detail, care, communication or just decent customer service and courtesy throughout. Narberth was nice, the last minute hotel however was not.
