a trip back in time excellent value for money
we spent 4 nights at the Atholl.
I am always surprised by certain reviews... for my part, I always look at the ratio of price and what is offered. And for our stay, everything was generally very good.
We stayed at the manor with our grandson... quiet, very good, 2 steps from the main hotel
a family suite with 2 large bedrooms, a bathroom and a shower room, 2 toilets, all for an unbeatable price. Prosecco was waiting for us (the only hotel to do so out of our 3 castle hotels, and yet the others were much more expensive)
bottles of water every day
added to the stay INCLUDED: good-level gym; tennis, the driving range; snooker, and the indoor pool and jacuzzi.
the staff was charming, the check-in was adorable and competent, as was the check-out.
the bar service where we ate inside and outside 3 times, pleasant staff, food likewise.
This hotel is a story, a place that is sometimes old-fashioned but timeless, which gives off an atmosphere that we love.
breakfast is more than sufficient, drinks served at the table, which was not always the case in other more expensive castle hotels with coffee machines.
the surprise one evening of a musical trio delighted us
so why 4, just a little coat of paint in the bathroom over some stains (made by former guests) and the bathtub, and perhaps a little rejuvenation of some furniture, but nothing that spoiled our stay.
the park is superb and the immediate proximity to the charming, lively, and bustling village of PITLOCHRY are also bonuses.
Clearly our 11-year-old grandson loved his stay, and so did we.

You got to there
This place has got to be one of the best places I’ve enjoyed.
It’s 10 minutes from Pitlochry town centre.
The minute you arrive you just relax.
It is an old palace so expect everything of period, which gives it a fantastic atmosphere.
No matter where you look is perfectly clean. Toilets included.
Inside or outside you could hear a pin drop. It was just soooooo relaxing.
The swimming pool area was perfectly clean and in excellent condition. As was the jacuzzi.
My wife told me the Spa treatment couldn’t be better.
The walks and gardens were just superb.
See if you can find the Japanese hidden garden. Take a book.

While not cheap, you need to remember, you get what you pay for.

Not a romantic break
Booked as a romantic relaxing break but was far from it.
Couldn’t get a treatment which was main reason we booked. Was only told day before.
When we checked in no one helped us to our room.
The room they gave us was at back of the restaurant where you would expect staff to be staying.
The spa was pretty basic.
The food was terrible.
Badly cooked and badly prepared.
Not what you would expect at that price and all I heard was complaints they were understaffed.
At the price I paid that shouldn’t have been a problem .
When I wrote to them they acknowledged genuine complaint but offered a free spa treatment if I return.
I’m sorry but based on this experience I wouldn’t waste any more money to stay to be disappointed agsin

Unique experience
Loved the nature hikes around the grounds. The folks at the front desk were very kind. Furnishings tracked with the age and theme of the building. If you are looking for a novelty stay in a very cute town, this is a great choice.
