Definitely coming back !
Went recently with family , was served by a lovely lady at the bar . If I can remember well her name was Sophie ! Lovely atmosphere and helped us feel so welcome in our first visit to the pub , will be coming back next year !!

RATS - DO NOT STAY
Am astonished I am actually writing this review. I booked to stay here for 5 nights in the self catering apartment (number 3) with my husband and young daughter.
When we arrived we realised quickly it was dirty (sticky marks on the kitchen floor, food on the bedroom carpets) and poorly maintained (various broken items, extractor fan didn’t work so permanent toilet smell and oddly a kitchen tap in the bathroom sink). A look out of the windows (see photos) showed it was utterly filthy. It also showed what we later realised were huge amounts of rat droppings from where the rats were coming from as well as wood they had gnawed on.
At 5.30am the following morning we then saw rats running up and down right outside the open window in the lounge area. A few minutes later we saw more rats running right outside the bedroom window with one trying to get in. Thankfully my husband pulled the window shut quickly. We then had to close all windows so the room was baking hot. We barely slept then.
We reported it straight away and later that day were offered a token refund (and unbelievably one free night stay in the future). Ultimately we were then offered a full refund and decided we just needed to leave. At that point given the time of day, sadly we had no choice but to stay one more night (no other accommodation) before we could get on a train.
Around 5pm, I asked the man on the front desk (I have his name), if pest control had been around, as we were told they would. He told me no they hadn’t and that it was known about the rat issue but ‘he had never seen them on the roof before’. It was unbelievable and so I warned the family behind me checking in of the rat problem - at which point he threatened to throw me and my 13 year old daughter out that evening. My daughter took it very literally and was upset.
We had to endure another evening seeing rats running outside our window and listening to scurrying noises outside scratching on the windows. (See video). None of us slept.
We left the next morning- holiday ruined, all the things we had planned cancelled. The attitude of the same male member of staff was shocking- no apology just hugely rude and dismissive- and we were told well that’s just St Ives so get used to it. I do appreciate there will be rats in the town but it is a very very serious health and safety issue indeed if they are inches from your room and trying to get in. Even the GM Alice couldn’t be bothered to come out of her office (even though she was feet away) to offer some sort of apology. Just stared at us from the door.
Please please do not stay here - I have made a report to St Ives Environment Health who agree this is a serious issue. I am also writing St Austell Brewery. We were very concerned to see families checking in unaware of the issue. It clearly is - see Facebook post from May showing back of hotel (seen from a simple Google search)

Lovely room overlooking the Harbour, very steep stairs, but not a problem if fit and able. Room was quite dusty. No room service, but when we asked we could get further supplies of towels, toilet roll/coffee. Be warned, we were woken every morning very early (5.40am on Monday with loud noise for around an hour) with bin lorries, street sweeper and recycling lorry emptying bottles and rolling bins down the side alley, which even ear plugs cannot drown out and each day before 6.30am. Didn't affect us too much, but if you like to sleep in, this place is not for you.

No room at the inn!
We booked 3 rooms through Expedia. I thought they were quite expensive for what we paid, 280 each for superior sea view.
When we arrived after a long drive taking over 9 hours we were told we only had 2 rooms booked. The manager was gone ages and came back telling us there had been a mistake, tried to blame Expedia and took two members of our party to its sister hotel, the Pedn Olva up the road. It's a nice hotel but meant our party had been split up. The room in the Pedn Olva was tiny, hot and not great.
One of us squashed up by the bed nearly knocking the telly off the wall trying to get out. The two rooms at the Life Boat were ok, one was nicer than the other and we wouldn't choose to stay here again. Too hot and noisy, one had lots of stairs and to be honest felt a bit unclean. The manager told us we would get the money back on the room they hadn't booked but when we tried we didn't get anything back. This was the fault of the Lifeboat as Expedia wasn't at fault.

I can’t say enough good about the location of this hotel. It is literally along the harbor walkway with a view of the little bay And it is very cute and quaint outside. Other than that, it could use a lot of help. We rented the little apartment in the Inn that had one bedroom and a sitting area with a pullout couch and then upstairs had a little living room and kitchen. We were a party of three adult sisters, and there was a queen bed and a pullout bed. The pullout bed was so bad that she found it much more comfortable to sleep on the couch upstairs. It is a very old house, so just be warned that the stairs are very steep, and the floors are not all perfectly horizontal. The kitchen was partially furnished, but no forks and no butter knives at all. The shower was fine, but you had to flush the toilet at least three times to get it to actually flush. We had driven and there is no parking so you need to pay for a parking at somebody’s house/driveway that they are willing to rent. We did this online separately from the. Hotel When we arrived the hostess at their Restaurant was the one that gave me the key. No papers whatsoever and when we checked out, I had no way of finding anybody because the restaurant was closed and the doors were locked. Unfortunately it is not well run. But we did feel lucky to stay in the location. It’s a very cute little town.
