Lovely afternoon tea served by friendly staff
My daughter and I had afternoon tea today at Stanton Manor Hotel, on our way home from a trip to Bristol. The hotel is set in countryside, very peaceful with lovely gardens. Our afternoon tea was excellent with a good variety of sandwiches and cakes, plus scones, jam and clotted cream. We were able to choose our tea from a selection, presented in a wooden box, which made the experience feel more special. Thanks to the staff, who were all very friendly, professional and happy to help with our requests, including bringing our tea outside as we wanted to sit in the garden. I would highly recommend Afternoon tea here and would love to stay here too at some point.

Not the standard expected for the price paid
Spent one night at this hotel before attending local flower show. Check in was extremely quick and the hotel grounds look impressive. We placed our cases in the room and the went back out to drive the route we would be using the next day to familiarise ourselves. On our return to the hotel we had a drink whist sitting in the rear courtyard and then had an excellent meal in the restaurant served by a very friendly chap.
On our return to our room we only then noticed how small and unlike any of the pictures shown on the hotel website it actually is (the wall mounted tv actually hangs past the corner of the wall into the entrance way.). The toilet flush was the first issue. You had to “pump” the handle furiously to get the flush to actually operate. As it was getting late we decided we could live with that issue rather than try to get someone to our room due to the disruption it would cause us.
When we awoke in the morning I attempted to take a shower in the quite cramped bathroom. No matter which way I turned or how much force I applied to the controls all I could manage was to get a scalding dribble of water out of the shower head. As we were due to leave the hotel before 08:00 and the information pack in the room states reception does not open until 08:00 I did not believe anyone would be available to come and rectify the issue (plus you would have to get dressed and go to reception anyway).
At check out we described the issues with the room to the lady there and she said she would check the toilet but the shower was a known issue and it was very stiff. I explained again it was not stiff, it didn’t work and if there was an issue with it why not just tell us at check in so at least we would have the opportunity to try it before we needed it.
I have since emailed the hotel and manager who replied said his staff have checked both the toilet flush and the shower and have reported there are no issues with either!!!!
I don’t really appreciate being called a liar and have asked him to actually check both items personally.
Given the attitude of the person at check out and being called a liar means we will never be staying at this hotel again and I would advise anyone thinking of staying here to view their room on arrival and compare against advertised standards/pictures on the hotel website and also check all amenities in the room to ensure they work before they are needed.
Edit - I have tried to contact the hotel manager (Luke) who did initially respond but has since gone “radio silence”. If they cannot engage with clients then that says a lot about the hotel. Regarding the issue we had with the room the following reviews were left by others;
“Our room was at the end of a long corridor after negotiating a stair case, steps and heavy doors with our bags. Fortunately we did not have suitcases!
Our room was small and in need of refurbishing. The shower had black mould between the shower tiles and on our second night the shower did not work at all. No little toiletries just soap dispensers. No telephones in the room”
“Our room was disappointing - smaller than we had expected (number 12) for the price and we forgot that it should have had a bath, as well as a shower unit, or we would have complained”
It would appear that the shower issue is ongoing so either repair it or notify guests. To tell them there is nothing wrong wrong is very condescending and shows a lack of empathy.
Perhaps senior management need to be involved in resolving these issues

Great country house hotel
Great location, clean, comfortable room, homely atmosphere, really attentive and friendly service and excellent food at both breakfast and dinner. Couldn't fault it for value.

Afternoon tea
We had afternoon tea here and made sure as one of us didn't like mayonnaise etc was giving just plain sandwiches. Also was served by a brilliant waiter.

The room was disappointing small
The bathroom sink was cracked and the bathroom dated and there was only room for only one so again very small
I requested more pillows and the curtains closed twice but house keeping didn’t get the request
It was very hot during our stay and no fans were offered
