Chill and enjoy

I give 5 ⭐to Phu Van.The hotel is not 5* but it doesnt claim to be.The lady manager, I believe her name is Tink? is an amazing person, running around all day ,doing everything. She informed us about upgrading our room to a bungalow next to the swimming pool for an extra 7 euros per nightThe original price was 22 euros including breakfast !How can you complain about anything at this price? The breakfast was limited but there was eggs, fruit, bacon and sausage, chicken wings, noodles, beef soup, a curry, vegetables, salad and etc.We really felt so at home and relaxed, nobody is bothering you, nice and quiet,2 min walk to the beach and the perfect location!
1 minute walk to any bar, restaurant, supermarket, street food, massage places, spas, and the King Kong market !Cleaners came everyday, whatever we needed was there in a second! It was a bit outdated, the rooms and facilities but unless you are looking for a luxury resort, Phu Van was great and we would definitely go back.
Thank you and see you again

Extremely Disappointing Stay Not Suitable for Families with Infants

I rarely write negative reviews, but my experience at this hotel compels me to share honestly so that other travelers especially families with young children can make informed decisions.
I was traveling with my infant and had expected basic hygiene, comfort, and cooperation from the hotel staff. Unfortunately, my experience was deeply disappointing.
1. Poor Hygiene & Unpleasant Room Condition
The room had a strong sewage smell that made it extremely uncomfortable to stay in. There were mosquitoes throughout the room, which is particularly concerning when traveling with a baby. Cleanliness and proper maintenance are basic expectations, and sadly, those standards were not met.
2. Uncooperative Staff
What troubled me even more was the behavior of the staff. I politely requested assistance to help prepare simple food for my baby something that required only a couple of minutes of boiling. I clearly mentioned that I was willing to pay extra charges for the help.
Despite this, my request was repeatedly refused. I was told “no” multiple times without explanation. As a mother in a foreign country, this was extremely stressful and disheartening. Only after repeatedly requesting and breaking down emotionally did they finally agree to assist.
Basic empathy and hospitality were completely missing.
3. Not Family-Friendly
This hotel is not suitable for families traveling with infants. The hygiene concerns and lack of support make it very difficult to recommend.
What truly alarmed us happened after the first night.
My infant daughter developed a high fever of 103°F. We noticed what appeared to be a bite mark, but it did not look like a typical mosquito bite. As parents in a foreign country, this was extremely frightening. We do not know what bit her, but the condition of the room and presence of insects raise serious concerns about pest control and hygiene standards.
I genuinely hope the management takes this feedback seriously and improves both their facilities and staff training. Hospitality is not just about providing a room it is about ensuring guests feel safe, comfortable, and supported.
Unfortunately, this was one of the most uncomfortable hotel experiences I have ever had.

Horror

The Phu Van Resort and Spa is a complete disappointment and an outright deception.
We bought the tour in advance through a tour operator and paid for the poolside bungalow, but when we checked in we were told that there were "no bungalows available". Instead of a paid option, they tried to put us in the rooms of the main building, feeding us promises that the bungalows would “be available later”. The hotel managers were talking outright bullshit and making excuses to avoid responsibility. In the end, we didn't live in a paid room for a single day. The tour operator at the same time completely self-disengaged and did not help in any way.
The hotel itself is murdered and long overdue. Rooms:
mold on the walls,
persistent smell of dampness,
defective plumbing,
The air conditioner hums like an industrial generator is running nearby,
cleaning is purely for ticking.
Breakfasts are squalid and monotonous, with little choice.
The area is small, and it's the only thing being monitored in any way. The pool is large, but for days the filtration failed, the water was murky and raised doubts about the safety of swimming.
This hotel does not even meet the minimum level of 3★. Money thrown away, impressions ruined. I strongly advise against it - if you don't want to ruin your vacation, stay away from this place.

Spoiled vacation

The hotel is old, dirty, the room smells damp, there is no beach, the staff barely understands English.
We arrived in the morning, promised an early arrival, ended up checking into these barracks at 3 p.m. But that's half the trouble, our friend booked a room through a tour agency and he had to have a bungalow, which in fact wasn't available and only through scandals could we get him one suite for just a few days, and we came for eight days and that's in ng. In the ng and peak season on the island naturally there was nothing available, a few days we spent looking for a room for a friend, not on vacation.
But that's not all, having promised with other tourists, we realized that throwing like this is the norm hotel practice. They sell the bungalows more than they are, charge 100% upfront and when they arrive, the guests have nowhere else to go, they shove the barracks they gave us.
Anyway, if you live in this hotel, it's only in the bungalow, but it's not like you're going to get them, even if you booked months in advance and paid for everything.
I'll never come here again and recommend this hotel to anyone.

Extremely Dissappointed

I am disappointed to write that this hotel does not live up to expectations. Firstly, the Superior Room we booked did not “boast a walk-in shower”, Booking.com description not ours. The room was extremely dated and in need of modernisation. Whilst the room was spacious, it smelt musky with signs of damp penetration to the left of the window and below the window cill. Not great conditions for anyone’s health especially since my wife suffers with COPD. The room (004) had a limited view and was accessible via a rather dirty communal balcony. We carried our suitcases four long flights of stairs (granted there was some minimal help to start with) to the second floor (2 long flights per floor) since there wasn’t a lift. The air conditioning was ineffective and in general the room was far from adequate, the pictures on the App and hotel website must be at least 5 years old judging by current conditions. How this room can be described as ‘Superior’ is beyond me. Needless to say we complained and, after much toing and froing we were moved to a bungalow (room 423); this was better however, we could only stay here until 28th December as they were fully booked and we then had to return to the original inferior room 004. Room 423 also had its issues, mattresses were stained, the suspended ceiling tiles in the shower room had moss growing from it, the wash basin was stained, cracked and in a sorry state, the ceiling extractor in the bathroom was disgustingly filthy, the electrics were constantly tripping and lights permanently flickering, the front door lock then failed halfway through our stay and our room wasn’t made up on this day either (24/12). As part of the toing and froing we were offered two alternative rooms and neither was an improvement, in fact I’d say they were worse, one room didn’t even have a window and the damp smell was so overpowering. So as not to spoil our New Year I frantically sourced somewhere else to stay. This proved quite challenging given the holiday period but I did eventually manage to find somewhere from 28/12/24 to 1/1/25 at considerable expense. We then had to spend our final night in the damp musky ‘superior’ room 004 back at Phu Van resort and the A/C wasn’t working properly making it difficult to sleep due to heat levels. Not the greatest experience of our travels and certainly not a 3 star hotel as suggested, a 2 star perhaps and that’s pushing it! I could extol the inadequacies of this hotel with a lot more detail, including that of breakfast and questionable food safety standards (salad exposed to flies and bugs with dishes in terrines warm at best) but hopefully you get my points? I’m not sure how hotels are assessed but the accommodation description is definitely misleading and in my opinion contravenes advertising standards, examples being this is described as beach front albeit, there is access to the beach via a privately owned bar where they charge for seating, there wasn’t any beach towels, there wasn’t an iPod dock, the pool wasn’t fenced, I could go on! The internet was very poor and constantly intermittent to the level it was infuriating, it’s either controlled for access or it’s just pathetic. Our entrance door was fully glazed albeit thankfully not transparent, however, it allowed light from the terrace to enter at night until around midnight.
