Nice hotel in Hanoi

Spent 3 nights in this hotel during my stay in Hanoi, the location is prefect, just few minutes away from hoan kiam lake and water puppet theater. All the staff are young and friendly! Rooms were clean and comfortable with 24 hours free wifi. There's a travel agent right on the first floor where you can book your vietnam trip from them. I never regret staying here and it is highly recommended!

Ok, not great

The best thing about this place is the location. It is right in old town, a short walk from Hoan Kiem Lake. Other than that, this place is a miss. The breakfast is subpar tuna-sandwhiches, the beds are hard, and the hotel staff are indifferent. I might stay here in a pinch, but would choose somewhere else if I had time to plan.

Bad Security

My boyfriend and I stayed here two nights and it was our last stay before leaving Vietnam. The bed was harder than the floor and the room had a smell. We only stayed because the room was pre payed.
On the last day before we were leaving for the airport, we went out for breakfast only to return to find our valuables taken. There was no sign of forced entry. When we told the staff that we had our things stolen they acted very defensively and told us it was our problem. I was very upset and I pleaded with the only man at the desk, that could speak English to call the police and he refused. He wrote down the address for the police station but refused to come with me to translate.
It was only after I'd managed to explain what had happened to the police that the hotel staff came to the police station.
It was such a bad end to our trip this hotel ruined Vietnam for us.

Warning

I suspect that most of the positive reviews above have been faked: and pictures can definitely lie.
This hotel is absolutely not new - rather it is old, very shabby and decrepit. The beds in our room (supposedly one of the best) were hard as stone, the shower was fixed above the toilet bowl, the room smelt stale, the lock on the room door was dodgy and the door to the balcony could not be closed properly. The girl in reception was admittedly pleasant and friendly but this is not enough.
We checked out 20 minutes after we arrived, having found several far superior hotels in the same vicinity that had much more to offer for more or less the same price.

Dream Team

A Vietnamese colleague selected Trong Dong Hotel for me as my base camp during a business trip to Hanoi - it was a perfect choice! Wonderful location in the old quarter, only a few minutes' walk to Hoan Kiem Lake, nice and spacious rooms, but most important - the staff: The hotel is run by young friendly people who always find tailored solutions and always have good advice for Hanoi greenhorns (like me); but I'm sure they can be helpful for old hands as well. Despite our tough time schedule they managed to arrange an extremely enjoyable and well-organized trip to Halong Bay for my colleague and me on very short notice. With such a team a hotel is in best hands - I can only recommend Trong Dong Hotel.
