Delightful Homestay

Our stay at the Cho’s Family Homestay was delightful. Our chalet was set away from the main building, up amongst nature, and surrounded by pretty gardens and fruit trees. View from our room was fantastic and further along the path was a bigger view of the valley. Our room was very clean, comfortable big bed, great hot shower and tea/coffee making facilities. The hosts were friendly, polite and spoke good English, and we understand French and Spanish too. The dinner and breakfast meals were all freshly cooked and so tasty. Coffee, crepes and banana for breakfast was a big hit! We would definitely stay again. Thank you, Mr Cho and family, very much.

Such a meaningful experience

It was a delightful stay for my family. Price was great and location was excellent as we wanted to be amongst the Hmong villagers and got a chance to hike to the local villages to meet a few Hmong families. The experience was heartfelt and meaningful. It was also close enough to the main center of Bac Ha where we were able to shop but being able to come back to a quiet place to relax is priceless. The rooms were comfortable and its not luxury but it definitely is worth ever dollar we paid. Meals are cooked fresh to order since they dont have a massive fridge to store things .Mr. Cho was so kind' especially to our elderly mothers and we will remember him and the experience we received.

Inadmissible

Reservation of a bungalow in September. On arrival, offer of an alcove in a dormitory with around ten people, shared bathroom and toilets outside.
No excuses, no fallback solutions, fortunately our guide and our driver from Tonkin voyages found us a room in the city center.

Deliberate overbooking, M.Cho has questionable practices. Not recommended

The place certainly has charm but commercial practices make it unrecommendable: we had reserved and paid for two bungalow rooms with bathrooms 4 months ago, but on our arrival Mr. Cho without a word directed us to a sort of improved dormitory with partitions at mid height “.Insulating” the beds and a shared bathroom of 12, exterior and unheated (4 degrees at night when we were there….) When I protested and only then he told me he was mistaken in the reservations and that it was all he had! When we organized to leave his only comment was that we wouldn't find anything else the day before the market.
If that was what we had booked, no problem, but we had the impression that the overbooking was deliberate. Our hiking guide was scandalized
In short, bad practices and questionable reliability, not recommended

North Vietnamese mountain peaceful retreat

Charming bungalows. Clean, tasteful and functional. Located 2km from Bac Ha city centre off a country road. Don't shy away from in-house meals. Healthy and good value for money if you choose to stick with the vegetarian option. Few options elsewhere.

Not much to do in the area but peaceful mountain scenery. Ethnic minority villages and markets are accessible.
